About The Position

Develops new influenza candidate vaccine strains for subsequent vaccine antigen manufacture. Conducts sophisticated characterization to both identify strains of interest and ensure suitability for developed strains for advancement. Documents research activities with extremely high level of rigor and attention to detail. Models quality mindset and rigorous documentation practices for junior scientific staff. May work/establish relationships with partners and/or regulatory authorities related to vaccine strain characterization. Designs and implements business experimental processes to enable product research and development. Designs related integrated process and candidate / product team activities and directs technical and operational activities to ensure planned project outcomes, and enables portfolio prioritization, resource allocation, and risk management. Provides and contributes to project progression and reports, as required, to project or program committees for decision-making support. Leads teams in the development of program and project strategy, and lifecycle management planning. Develops systems to support dynamic portfolio management. Serves a key role in portfolio evaluation process. Drives initiatives across research and development units to create fully integrated strategies. Monitors and reports on portfolio status and proactively addresses and resolves issues. May design and develop manufacturing processes for new or existing products, taking into consideration problems inherent in the transfer of technology from research to manufacturing. Develops procedures for the economical mass production in cooperation with pilot-plant and production departments. Conducts tests and measurements throughout stages of production to determine control over applicable variables. As required, will need to operate within the current regulatory and compliance environments.

Requirements

• Postgraduate degree (preferably MSc or PhD) and / or experience in relevant discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years' relevant industry experience and / or equivalent experience in a relevant academic environment.
• Previous experience with influenza virus strongly preferred.
• Previous experience with classic virology assays and techniques strongly preferred.
• Previous experience with developing virology, cell-based, and/or molecular assays strongly preferred.
• Previous experience with viral reverse genetics including sequence design and characterization (including NGS) strongly preferred.
• Experience in project work and excellent analytical skills.
• Excellent communication skills (English language).

• May manage projects/processes, working independently with limited supervision.
• Coaches and reviews the work of lower-level professionals.
• Problems faced are difficult and sometimes complex, often requiring understanding of broader set of issues.
• Provides scientific expertise and guidance in the application of relevant technology platform to research and product development activities.
• Ensures high quality application of technology platform in order to support designated project objectives.
• Contributes to the planning, performance, evaluation and reporting of scientific experiments at the highest levels of scientific integrity.
• Works together with and provide expertise to other team members in order to achieve specified research project objectives within defined time parameters.
