About The Position

The Senior Scientist in Protein Engineering at Boehringer Ingelheim will play a crucial role in the Biotherapeutics Discovery department, focusing on the discovery and molecular engineering of biotherapeutics to address unmet medical needs. This position involves leading efforts to develop multi-specific biologics and enhancing therapeutic proteins for better drug-like properties. The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, driving internal capabilities and fostering a culture of excellence through successful project outcomes and scientific advancements.

Requirements

  • PhD in a related field or equivalent industry experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of technologies such as protein computational modeling, protein biophysics, protein expression/purification, and protein binding assays.
  • Experience in bioinformatics, structural biology, or molecular modeling software is a plus.
  • Project management ability and excellent written and oral presentation skills.

  • Experience in one or more of the specified skills and knowledge of the skill center process.
  • Ability to apply skills to the process and willingness to engage in international travel and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute multi-specific biotherapeutic campaigns including molecular design, vector construction, and screening of constructs.
  • Engineer novel proteins for function, stability, or developability using in-silico and throughput-based techniques.
  • Develop target profiles based on a deep understanding of target biology and developability standards.
  • Foster a culture of excellence through continual process improvement and scientific curiosity.
  • Propose and implement new experimental designs and concepts that contribute to research goals.
  • Participate as co-leader or representative on multiple project teams, contributing to program goals.
  • Mentor and develop scientific staff, overseeing results of technicians and junior scientists.
  • Ensure compliance with regulations and maintain proper records according to SOPs and policies.
  • Prepare technical reports, publications, and presentations; communicate results effectively to management and at scientific meetings.
  • Contribute to departmental administration and demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
