We are looking to fill a Senior Scientist II position working as a full-time employee of Parexel FSP on assignment onsite at one of our clients located in Rahway, NJ. Description The Process Chemistry department of one of our clients in Rahway, NJ is seeking a Process Chemist. This role will have primary responsibility within the Hazardous Reaction Laboratory (HRL). The role is designed for a MS or BS candidate having working experience in the pharmaceutical industry. This Chemistry / Engineering position will support HRL staff in developing hazardous chemistry routes. The work is predominantly hands-on in the laboratory and includes: Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment Maintaining a safe, organized working environment Executing key chemistry processing steps, such as heterogeneous and homogeneous catalytic reactions and other important organic synthesis procedures and transformations Performing chemistry activities ranging from gram-scale bench work to kilogram-scale processing using both wet and dry processing equipment. Typical reaction systems include Endeavor-type screening equipment, EasyMAX pressure reaction systems, and Parr high-pressure autoclaves, all of which require a high degree of technical skill

Requirements

  • Senior Scientist II - MS degree in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or a closely related field with 3+ years of professional experience in pharmaceutical industry; or a BS degree with 7+ years of experience
  • Ability and willingness to work in the laboratory with a variety of chemicals
  • Ability to prioritize safety in all laboratory activities; understand and strictly follow established safe work practices to protect yourself and others
  • Ability to schedule, organize, and execute daily and longer-term experimental and facility support activities to meet established timelines
  • Familiarity and proficiency with using digital tools effectively, including web-based submission systems, electronic laboratory notebooks, Microsoft SharePoint, OneNote, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Proven ability to proactively seek information and guidance by knowing where to look, what to read, and whom to ask; comply with all company policies and training requirements
  • Proficiency with hands-on wet chemistry, including recognizing, understanding, and anticipating potential chemical issues
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally as both a team member and a service provider to a broad range of internal customers
  • Ability to plan and execute laboratory activities that support research process development
  • Experience supporting facility and equipment maintenance, including routine upkeep as needed
  • Experience with following preventive maintenance procedures and compliance requirements for laboratory equipment
  • Ability to help identify critical spare parts, maintain spare part inventory, and update related documentation in laboratory systems
  • Ability to contribute actively to the laboratory team by maintaining a clean, organized, and safe workspace; ensure equipment is cleaned and returned to its original state after use
  • Ability to develop and apply the technical finesse required for work such as leak-checking pressure vessels and implementing custom equipment modifications to meet research objectives

Nice To Haves

  • Excellent electro-mechanical skills for the design of new apparatus and maintenance of existing systems
  • Experience with Mettler Toledo iControl and related software tools
  • Experience with analysis tools such as IR Spectroscopy, UHPLC and UHPLC-MS
  • Familiar with Python programming
