About The Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our Discovery Biology Department as a Senior Scientist II and work as part of a team to drive success. The Senior Scientist II will support ongoing RNA-based drug discovery projects in Neuroscience therapeutic areas. The successful candidate will have experience in neuroscience drug discovery and a deep understanding of human neurobiological processes that drive CNS disease pathophysiology. The Senior Scientist II will employ a variety of in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro techniques to advance oligonucleotide therapeutics for neurological indications.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or related scientific discipline
  • 4-6 years of relevant biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience in neuroscience drug discovery.
  • 4+ years of industry experience as a project team lead
  • Experience with qPCR, ELISA, MSD, Western blot, flow cytometry, stem-loop qPCR, fluorescence microscopy and image analysis
  • Experience with in vitro and ex vivo assay development to support compound screening and mechanistic studies
  • Experience with rodent stereotaxic surgery techniques as well as brain tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, fixation and immunohistochemistry.
  • Broad knowledge of scientific experience with track record of scientific achievement demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications.
  • Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite Products.
  • Understanding of project timelines and deliverables and plans/coordinate project work accordingly with departmental, functional, and external stakeholders.
  • Adaptable / Flexible - willing and able to adjust to multiple demands and shifting priorities as well as an ability to meet day-to-day challenges with confidence and professionalism.
  • Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills with the ability to take a hands-on approach to work effectively in a dynamic and collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong technical awareness in various aspects of drug development, adherence to rigorous scientific methods, and commitment to the scientific process

  • Strong expertise in developing novel assays for compound screening or mechanistic studies

Responsibilities

  • Support in vitro and ex vivo studies through developing novel assays and optimizing existing assays for compound screening
  • Support in vivo studies by performing basic animal handling and specialized CNS techniques (e.g. intracerebroventricular and intrathecal injection) as well as tissue dissection and processing
  • Implement multiple state-of-the-art techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, and microscopy to determine drug distribution, efficacy, safety, and mechanism of action
  • Contributes to the identification and validation of therapeutic targets for siRNA approaches and supporting existing pipeline programs
  • Manage external CROs and oversee study execution
  • Maintain updated and well-organized lab notebooks
  • Other duties as assigned.
