About The Position

AbbVie Discovery Neuroscience team seeks a collaborative senior scientist who will lead from the laboratory bench to support advancement of psychiatry assets. In this onsite role, you will leverage your significant demonstrated experience in molecular and cellular pharmacology, in vitro human-derived cellular models, and ex vivo sample analysis to propose/evaluate new approaches and carry out well-matched approaches for scientific questions supporting advancement of assets through stage-gate transitions. You will be expected to have strong communication skills, be agile, operate comfortably with ambiguity on formal and informal teams, and work with a sense of urgency and accountability to advance projects efficiently and compliantly. Opportunities will exist to contribute to target validation and progression, collaborate across AbbVie sites, present your work, and mentor scientists. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 12+ years of experience, Master’s Degree or equivalent education and typically 10+ years of experience, PhD and typically 4+ years of experience.
  • Possess thorough theoretical and practical understanding of own scientific discipline.
  • Effective writer and communicator of research or other regulatory materials.

  • Significant experience with running and interpreting pharmacological studies, human iPSC-neuron culture, clonal cell line culture, equipment/assay selection and development
  • Growth mindset with strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and master new experimental techniques
  • Attention to detail with ability to see big picture, multitask and work within timelines
  • Pharmaceutical industry drug discovery experience
  • Experience with endpoints related to neurotransmitters, receptor signaling, trafficking, neuroplasticity, proteomics.
  • Experience with medium to high throughput technology and techniques such as electronic dispensing equipment/robotics, AlphaLISA, HTRF, ELISA, MSD, qPCR, capillary Western, FLIPR, kinetic/endpoint assays, high-content imaging; engages vendors/reads manuals
  • Ex vivo sample assay design, processing, and analysis experience
  • Additional CNS iPSC-derived cell experience, encompassing multiple cell types
  • Psychiatry therapeutic area experience
  • Familiarity leveraging AI tools to improve productivity

Responsibilities

  • Proactively translate department/project team scientific questions into well-designed experiments, utilizing internal and external resources
  • Explore multiple technical options for approach, quality, feasibility, efficiency and present recommendations at project team or group meetings
  • Set up and carry out novel molecular and cellular assays/models to support SAR and understanding of target biology in context of project team goals & transitions
  • Document protocols and results in databases and electronic laboratory notebook, contributing to formal study reports per business need
  • Uphold impeccable research-related & corporate compliance standards
  • Collaborate across the organization; Mentor/matrix manage junior scientists
