About The Position

Discovery Biotherapeutics and Genetic Medicine (BGM) at Abbvie is seeking a highly motivated research scientist to join the Cell and Functional Biology group at the Cambridge Research Center (CRC). The CRC site based in Cambridge, MA offers a unique setting where BGM, Immunology, Neuroscience, and Genomic Research Center co-exist. In this role, you will be responsible for the conceptualization and execution of cell- and protein- based functional characterization assays for lead antibody identification/optimization and collaborating to generate stage-gate appropriate in vitro / cellular / in vivo data packages supporting PoC. The ideal candidate should have strong experience with fluorescent reporters, fluorescent assay development, cell culture and antibody screening and significant experience in flow cytometry, cell-based assays and imaging. Familiarity with high-throughput screening and multi-specifics is highly valued. The applicant should be able to analyze, document, and report data. You should possess excellent communication skills and be comfortable working in cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • BS with 10+ years of experience or MS with 8+ years of experience or PhD with no experience in Biology, Molecular and Cellular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Immunology or other related field.
  • Proficient in conceptualization and implementation of in vitro fluorescent plate-based assays.
  • Expertise in cell-culture, flow cytometry, ELISA/microplate cytometry, luminescence and imaging platforms.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team environment.
  • Strong attention to quality and details when exercising organizational, documentation and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with high-throughput screening, programming and multi-specific antibodies.
  • Experience with external collaborations and partnerships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of cell-based fluorescent assays to enable function-first antibody screening across multiple therapeutic areas and drug discovery stages.
  • Design, optimize, and validate assay protocols, ensuring robustness and reproducibility across projects.
  • Analyze and interpret complex data sets, providing insights and recommendations for next steps in research projects.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements in cell-based assays, fluorescence applications, and imaging techniques to support the expansion of function-first assay design.
  • Develop close cross-functional relationships with therapeutic area scientists to drive synthesis of innovative ideas and solutions to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate scientific excellence through dedication to multiple projects in a fast-paced multi-disciplinary environment.
