About The Position

Senior Scientist, Discovery and Translational Development – Solid Biosciences Charlestown, MA Solid Biosciences is a precision genetic medicine company focused on advancing a portfolio of gene therapy candidates targeting rare neuromuscular and cardiac diseases, including Duchenne muscular dystrophy (Duchenne), Friedreich’s ataxia (FA), catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT), TNNT2-mediated dilated cardiomyopathy, BAG3-mediated dilated cardiomyopathy, and additional fatal, genetic cardiac diseases. We are advancing a diverse pipeline and delivery platform in the pursuit of uniting experts in science, technology, disease management, and care. Patient-focused and founded by those directly impacted by Duchenne, Solid’s mission is to improve the daily lives of patients living with devastating rare diseases. The Senior Scientist will be a key contributor within the Discovery & Translational Development (DTD) group at Solid Biosciences, supporting the advancement of AAV-based gene therapy programs for neuromuscular diseases, with a primary focus on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). This role sits at the interface of discovery, translational science, and early development. The Senior Scientist will be responsible for generating high-quality preclinical and translational data to inform program strategy, support IND-enabling activities, and enable confident clinical interpretation. Success in this role requires strong neuromuscular biology expertise, hands-on experience with AAV gene therapy, and the ability to operate effectively within a cross-functional, industry-driven environment. This role will report to the Head of Discovery & Translational Development and will be based in Solid’s Corporate Headquarters located in Hood Park in Charlestown, MA and is a primarily onsite position.

Requirements

  • PhD in Muscle Biology, Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Pharmacology, or a related life sciences discipline.
  • 5–8+ years of relevant experience, with a strong preference for biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry experience.
  • Direct experience supporting neuromuscular disease programs, ideally DMD.
  • Hands-on experience with AAV gene therapy platforms, including in vivo studies.
  • Experience contributing to translational research and IND-supporting activities is highly desirable.
  • Preclinical neuromuscular disease models (e.g., mdx and related models).
  • Molecular and cellular assays relevant to gene therapy (e.g., qPCR, immunofluorescence, Western blot, ELISA).
  • Histological and imaging-based evaluation of muscle pathology and transgene expression.
  • Data analysis, visualization, and interpretation using standard industry tools.
  • Strong grounding in neuromuscular disease biology, with deep familiarity in DMD pathophysiology.
  • Demonstrated expertise in AAV-based gene therapy, including capsid biology, transgene expression, and tissue tropism.
  • Translational mindset with the ability to connect preclinical findings to clinical interpretation.
  • High level of scientific rigor, critical thinking, and experimental design capability.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience presenting data to multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced biotechnology environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Postdoctoral training in neuromuscular disease or gene therapy is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design, execute, and interpret studies supporting DTD neuromuscular gene therapy programs, including DMD.
  • Generate mechanistic and translational data evaluating transgene expression, biodistribution, durability, and functional impact in relevant disease models.

  • Ensure scientific rigor, reproducibility, and appropriate statistical analysis across all studies.
  • Contribute to IND-enabling data packages, including study design, data interpretation, and preparation of technical reports and regulatory-supporting documentation.
  • Partner closely with Clinical, Bioanalytics, Regulatory, CMC, and Program Management to ensure translational alignment and operational execution.
  • Support development and refinement of translational hypotheses, target product profiles (TPPs), and go/no-go decision criteria.
  • Actively participate in DTD program teams and scientific governance forums.
  • Communicate complex datasets clearly to internal stakeholders, including DTD leadership and executive audiences.
  • Manage or support external CROs and academic collaborators to ensure delivery of high-quality data on agreed timelines.
  • Embody DTD values of scientific rigor, accountability, and translational relevance.
  • Contribute to the evolution of DTD experimental platforms, biomarker frameworks, and best practices.
  • Mentor research associates or junior scientists as appropriate, fostering scientific growth and data integrity.
