About The Position

Amentum is seeking a Senior Safety Specialist for Las Vegas, NV. Purpose and Scope: Develops, coordinates and implements Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) Programs. Ensures compliance with all OSHA and related compliance activities, identifies and manages risk, establishes and implements ESOH training/education programs, responsible for incident reporting and investigations, conducting inspections and assessments, waste minimization, pollution prevention and control, and record keeping. Essential Responsibilities: Develop plans, procedures, and policies to continuously improve the program. Perform cause analysis and provides guidance toward appropriate corrective actions. Develop, coordinate, and execute an effective safety training program. Develop and maintain the safety and health program records-keeping and reporting system. Provide leadership and direction in all areas of a risk assessment, loss control, regulatory compliance, and safety program. Support short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, strategic plans, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates programmatic and operational effectiveness, and effects changes required for improvement. Plan and develop strategies for a comprehensive risk management program that includes appropriate performance records of all risk management programs. Support environmental, safety and occupational health (ESOH) programs with focus on radiation, industrial safety, environmental protection, hazardous materials management, hazardous waste disposal, and emergency response requirements. Perform professional safety and health assessments and inspections to eliminate or control physical conditions, operating practices or other factors that pose unnecessary risks to personal health and safety. Prepare written reports of the findings and recommend/coordinate corrective actions. Analyzes data gathered from literature or collected from investigations. Maintains a working knowledge of specific requirements imposed by government agencies, the Air Force, and other customer requirements. Coordinate OSHA and other required training programs targeted to reduce employee injuries and lost work time. Integrate employee assistance and risk management programs to ensure compliance, promote quality, and minimize company losses. Keep current on pending regulatory developments through reference sources; obtains insight on legislative agendas at state and federal levels. Recommend and participate in the development of policies and procedures; serves as an advisor to the Operations Manager/Civil Engineering Superintendent during planning on risk management issues related to the design and construction of facilities. Supports Employee-Led Safety Committee. May perform supervisory functions as needed to support the program. Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in safety or related field or equivalent or at least 10 years’ experience in occupational safety.
  • Ability to perform safety inspections and audits and discuss findings with leadership.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Familiarity with common business computer software applications is expected.
  • Position requires the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional certification/accreditation (CIH, CSP, etc.) in the safety field is desirable.
