About The Position

Wisk is seeking a Senior SMS Program Advisor to join its Safety Management team. The primary objective of this role is to ensure the effective implementation and operation of the Safety Management System (SMS). The successful candidate will be instrumental in the design, implementation, and FAA approval of the SMS. This is an onsite position, requiring work from the Hollister office to support Flight Test, Production, and R&D activities. The role demands thorough familiarity with SMS implementation and principles, along with experience in policy rollout and change management. A strong understanding of aircraft systems, certification testing processes, and broad exposure to aviation-focused Safety Management Systems, particularly in a test environment, is essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills are also required. Wisk is an Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company, a fully-owned Boeing subsidiary, headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area with global locations. It is pioneering self-flying, eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) air taxis, aiming for FAA certification for passenger-carrying autonomous aircraft, and has over a decade of experience with 1750+ test flights.

Requirements

  • Have a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • At least 12 years aviation experience.
  • 5 years experience in safety risk management.
  • You have worked in FAA or Military, or other regulated environments (121, 135, airport, test etc.).
  • You have hands-on experience and are a thought leader in safety risk management, internal safety communications and data visualizations.
  • You have conducted safety investigations and retrospectives.
  • This role will require 10% of travel.
  • Thoroughly familiar with SMS implementation and principles.
  • Experience in rolling out new policy and change management is required.
  • Strong understanding of aircraft systems and the processes and support elements required to complete certification testing.
  • Possess a wide exposure to Safety Management Systems, focused on the aviation environment, and specifically test.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or aviation safety field.
  • Flight, system test, certification or production experience desired.
  • Experience in a test environment is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Take part in FAA acceptance of the SMS for type certification.
  • Support conducting and coaching subject matter experts in risk or hazard assessments across a wide cross section of tasks.
  • Help support problem solving activities with system level risk.
  • Help coordinate Safety Risk Management, Assurance and Promotion.
  • Take part in leading and training disparate teams to ensure SMS implementation and effectiveness.
