About The Position

The Senior Rotating Equipment Reliability Engineer reports to Rotating Equipment Superintendent and manages and continuously improves rotating equipment reliability. This position requires the ability to effectively lead the rotating equipment reliability organization to prioritize, direct and coordinate defect elimination, predictive, and preventative maintenance work to ensure safe, reliable, and environmentally compliant operations while working with other maintenance personnel and functional groups. A philosophy of defect elimination on equipment repairs is critical to improve plant reliability and increase overall equipment availability for the refinery.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering
  • 10 or more years of experience with plant rotating equipment
  • 10 or more years of experience in industrial maintenance, crafts, or shops
  • 10 or more years of experience working within a refinery or petrochemical processing facility
  • Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Must be willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to comply with the following: Travel up to 5% of the time, Occasional on-call duties, Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays, Transport articles up to 50 pounds, Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines, Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height, Work around chemicals, including acids and bases, Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat, Work outside in harsh weather conditions, Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear and eye protection), Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering
  • 15 or more years of experience as a rotating equipment specialist/engineer
  • Proficient in SAP
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Knowledge of PSM
  • Knowledge of safe work practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate work with both hourly and salaried employees
  • In-depth knowledge of pump, compressor, and turbine API repair standards.
  • Hands-on knowledge of pump, turbine, and compressor overhauls, with the ability to share that knowledge with others
  • Defect-elimination mindset when making repair decisions
  • Strong and effective communication skills (verbal and written) in both individual and group settings

Responsibilities

  • Mentoring and developing rotating equipment engineering and craft talent
  • Motivating and building trust within the team through open and consistent communications, constructive feedback, sound decision-making, demonstrating technical aptitude, timely follow-up, and leading by example
  • Identifying and investigating chronic equipment failures and developing corrective action plans
  • Implementing various programs regarding maintenance and reliability improvement
  • Utilizing wireless monitoring technology to identify equipment defects and prevent failure
  • System 1 condition monitoring oversight
  • Developing or modifying maintenance or safety procedures and training materials
  • Leading the team in safety and health excellence by recognizing and stopping unsafe behavior, recognizing and reporting safety hazards, completing assigned safety training, and complying with PSM elements
  • Ensures conformity with all safety policies and compliance programs, such as incident reporting, incident investigations, Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Process Safety Management (PSM), safety meetings, safety and housekeeping audits, and Safe Practices and Procedures
  • Identifying and removing barriers to productivity and efficiency of work crews
  • Participating in daily and other periodic meetings, including operations coordination, maintenance updates, scheduling priorities, backlog reviews, staff meetings, supervisor training, etc.
  • Assists in planning and issuance of daily work schedules for crews
  • Ensuring work crews comply with established repair quality standards and procedures
  • Monitors repair rework issues and develops corrective actions as necessary
  • Ability to pursue essential equipment upgrades during shop repairs with minimal oversight
  • Familiarity with API flush plans
