About The Position

T&M Associates is hiring a Roadway Safety Professional (RSP) to support New Jersey’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Programs (BSBPP). This position focuses on crash data analysis, planning, and project delivery to improve safety and implement Complete Streets initiatives that reduce serious and fatal crashes across the state. This role requires the candidate to be full-time on-site at NJDOT Headquarters, located at 1035 Parkway Avenue, Ewing, NJ.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, planning or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with safety projects and road safety project delivery, including traffic signal engineering, crash data analysis, and safety program development.
  • Familiarity with FHWA-proven safety countermeasures, crash reduction factors, and the process for creating collision diagrams and determining crash patterns.
  • Extensive experience with the NJDOT Roadway Design Manual, AASHTO guidelines, MUTCD, and Complete Streets policies.
  • Knowledge of Highway Safety Manual (HSM) and experience in conducting HSM analysis, including predictive methods, and ISATe tools.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills for managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including NJDOT staff, local agencies, and consultants.
  • Experience in preparing and presenting technical reports, progress reports, and other project documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • NJPE, NJPP/AICP and or RSP1/RSP2 preferred.
  • Experience with the NJDOT Capital Projects Delivery Process highly desirable.
  • Experience working for a public agency is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze crash data, identify high-crash locations, and recommend countermeasures to enhance pedestrian and bicycle safety.
  • Lead Road and Pedestrian Safety Audits (RSA/PRSA) and coordinate with NJDOT, local agencies, and stakeholders to advance safety programs.
  • Support the planning and implementation of Complete Streets and safety projects; review designs for compliance with FHWA/NJDOT guidance.
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards (HSM, MUTCD, NJDOT Roadway Design Manual) and assist in crash pattern analysis and project evaluations.
  • Guide junior staff and contribute to inter-agency safety efforts and public outreach in coordination with NJDOT, NJDEP, and DHTS.
  • Assist with reporting and automation for the HSIP Portfolio and implementation of the Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP).
