About The Position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a motivated Senior Roadway Engineer! This position will sit out of our Tampa, FL and support our Florida Transportation team. This Opportunity The WSP Tampa office serves clients from around the state of Florida on a wide variety of projects ranging from local municipal (roadway resurfacing and/or reconstruction, pedestrian safety) to major interstate reconstruction contracts. The selected candidate will work with local municipal agencies, Port of Tampa, THEA and FDOT on a variety of projects on a regular basis. Existing relationships and experience with local municipal agencies and FDOT are beneficial. This position is an excellent opportunity for personal growth and advancement in our industry as well as building your relationship within the WSP organization on a regional and national level. The Lead Roadway Highway Engineer should have experience in leading the design of roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, multidiscipline coordination, and TCP considerations on traditional and/or alternative delivery projects. This position may function as the lead engineer on local agency/municipal clients or FDOT projects. Responsibilities may also include contributing on pursuits/business development, maintaining client relationships, project management and QA/QC. This role will be a key contributor in managing daily activities of our Civil/municipal group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in transportation and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience leading design tasks on municipal and FDOT projects (highway, roadway geometric design, roadway plan production, and drainage design).
  • Developing skills in project and staff management experience on civil transportation projects.
  • Experience with daily mentoring of junior staff.
  • Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineering License in FL or ability to obtain in six months.
  • Experience with Civil3D and OpenRoads Designer (ORD).
  • Experience with civil transportation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in leading and continuing development of the Civil/municipal design team.
  • Providing guidance and mentoring of staff and direct work assignments.
  • Collaborating with leadership to determine long-range plans and objectives, including recommendations on project staffing.
  • Lead project tasks for conceptual and preliminary engineering and final design activities, as well as development of construction plans, calculations and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other design disciplines such as structures, drainage, traffic, and utilities, etc.
  • Participate hands-on in the preparation of Plans, Specifications and Estimates (PS&E).
  • Review, monitor and/or develop complex layouts, sketches, plans, specifications and estimates standards and guidelines, correspondence, and/or prepare reports.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
