Senior Reservoir Engineer

Diamondback EnergyMidland, TX

About The Position

The Senior Reservoir Engineer is a recognized technical authority responsible for leading advanced reservoir engineering evaluations and shaping development strategy for unconventional assets. This role requires deep, hands on expertise in shale reservoir engineering, including RTA, PVT, DFIT, CPG interpretation, fracture modeling and reservoir simulation, complemented by modern analytics, including machine leaning, SQL-based data workflows, and visualization platforms (e.g., Spotfire). This engineer operates with a high degree of autonomy, influences asset level decisions, and provides technical mentorship across reservoir engineering teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 10+ years of reservoir engineering experience, including at least 5 years focused on unconventional reservoirs.
  • Demonstrated technical mastery of RTA, PVT, DFIT, CPG, fracture modeling, and reservoir simulation.
  • Strong analytical capability with hands‑on experience working with production, pressure, and completion data.
  • Proven ability to independently evaluate complex reservoir problems and influence development decisions.
  • Proficiency with industry‑standard reservoir engineering tools, workflows, and data analytics.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to technical and non‑technical audiences.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Proficiency in SQL‑based data analysis and working with large, structured subsurface datasets.
  • Advanced experience with Spotfire (or similar platforms) for visualization, surveillance, and analytics.
  • Experience with Aries and economic evaluation.
  • Experience working in the Midland Basin.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a technical authority for unconventional reservoir engineering, providing guidance on well performance, spacing, and development optimization.
  • Lead advanced RTA and diagnostics to evaluate DSU optimization, interference, depletion, and completion effectiveness.
  • Perform and oversee PVT, pressure, DFIT, and fracture data analysis to characterize reservoir properties, stress regimes, and fracture behavior.
  • Apply fracture modeling, reservoir simulation, and forecasting to support completion design, spacing decisions, and development planning.
  • Leverage advanced analytics, machine learning, SQL, and structured data workflows to identify performance drivers and screen opportunities across large datasets.
  • Develop and maintain Spotfire dashboards and analytical tools to support surveillance, diagnostics, and asset‑level decision making.
  • Provide economic evaluation and clear technical recommendations, collaborate cross‑functionally, and mentor reservoir engineers while communicating insights to leadership.
