About The Position

SEIU 503 is seeking a full time Senior Researcher. SEIU Local 503 is a dynamic and growing union -over the last 20 years we have tripled in size and are now the largest union in Oregon. Our union represents public employees including state, local and higher education workers and long-term care workers including homecare, nursing home, and facility-based workers. Our work to lift standards benefits our members and Oregonians as a whole. We are looking for someone to join our research team and provide skilled support to SEIU 503's organizing, bargaining, and policy campaigns. The person in this position will lead critical projects under time pressure and use experience and creativity to solve problems big and small.

Requirements

  • A minimum of three-years of experience with quantitative and qualitative research relevant to the labor movement.
  • Demonstrated expertise and proficiency in the complete suite of union research products and services, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of their functions and applications.
  • Ability to oversee high-impact research initiatives, leading the union's most extensive and complex research projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of personalities and organizations and under pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities without close supervision.
  • Strong math skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to empowering workers through the labor movement.
  • Commitment to racial justice, including a willingness to interrupt bias and oppression, both internally and in group settings
  • Ability and stamina to work irregular and long hours and to attend weekend and evening activities.
  • Operation of a motor vehicle, (and current insurance coverage)

Responsibilities

  • Lead research projects
  • Communicate with Local 503 members and staff about research
  • Collect, clean, and organize information from a variety of data sources
  • Analyze and summarize data, and create charts and graphs
  • Develop presentations of research findings
  • Cost collective bargaining agreements and contracts for union members
  • Read, understand, and summarize laws, administrative rules, and proposed regulations
  • Complete financial analysis of public budgets and private companies
  • Develop and administer surveys
  • Keep good documentation
  • In-depth qualitative and quantitative analysis of contracts and public policy
  • Programming spreadsheets
  • Preparation of reports, memoranda, and presentations
  • Collaborating with people from different programs and departments to deliver needed research products
  • Political action: door-to-door canvassing, phone banks, issue campaigns, candidate campaigns, informing the membership on the issues and candidates, targeting candidates, targeting precincts for candidate races, voter registration, questionnaires and surveys on candidates and issues; get-out-the-vote drives.
