About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to work as a Senior Research Technician in a biology lab running a research portfolio within the Kummer lab at WashU Medicine. We are a neuroscience laboratory focused on applying cutting-edge techniques to understand the mechanisms of acute brain injury, especially traumatic brain injury (TBI), and its connections to Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease and other forms of neurodegeneration. We are particularly interested in synaptic injury. We work with animal models (mostly mice) and with patients in the hospital, and collaborate with academic and industry partners ensuring a broad-based, growth-oriented experience and a large, diverse field of colleagues. The Kummer lab specializes in techniques including imaging, molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, functional assessments, and immunolabeling. Performs independently complex research studies, experiments and assays.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or combination of education and/or experience may substitute for minimum education.

Responsibilities

  • Performs complex analysis/projects according to research protocols, explaining methods and procedures to other technicians.
  • Enters data and maintains current data files on research projects.
  • Monitors data to ensure consistent quality.
  • May perform preliminary statistical analysis of data.
  • Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists in the training and development of technicians, acting as a group leader.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
