The Senior Research Programmer at the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology will play a crucial role in the development, implementation, and testing of the neuronal visualization and analysis program known as VND. This program, developed and maintained by the Theoretical and Computational Biophysics Group (TCBG) at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), is designed to facilitate the visualization of neuron-level simulations and models, which are essential in neuroscience research. The individual in this position will be responsible for writing code for VND and will collaborate closely with other programmers to enhance the software's capabilities. In this role, the programmer will implement algorithms and software features in VND and its associated software. They will also be tasked with documenting, testing, and debugging the software to ensure it is ready for release. The programmer will contribute to various publications, proposals, and reports, showcasing the advancements made through their work. Additionally, they will survey and collaborate with users to identify and design necessary software features, ensuring that the program meets the needs of its users. Responding to user inquiries and bug reports via email will also be part of their responsibilities, along with contributing to workshops aimed at educating users about the software. This position is a full-time academic professional role, appointed on a 12-month basis, with an expected start date as soon as possible after the posting period closes. The salary for this position ranges from $71,000 to $80,000 per year, with the final salary determined by a thorough assessment of market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience, and qualifications.
