About The Position

Develops, implements, and evaluates the strategic and administrative operations of a complex, growing multi-investigator clinical research portfolio focused on cancer-relevant research within the department’s clinical research infrastructure (https://bidmcfirst.com/). In this role, the Senior Program Manager serves as a primary administrative and operational resource for faculty and research coordinators. They maintain deep working knowledge of all aspects of assigned clinical research trials and related processes in order to anticipate needs, troubleshoot complex operational and regulatory issues, and provide expert guidance to investigators and staff. The Senior Program Manager ensures that program policies, standard operating procedures, and training materials are developed, standardized across teams where appropriate, regularly reviewed, and updated in alignment with institutional requirements and NIH, FDA, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations. They oversee and mentor program managers and coordinators, providing leadership in workload planning, onboarding, training, competency development, and performance management across the clinical research portfolio. They supervise assigned staff, including hiring, performance evaluations, professional development planning, corrective action, and, when necessary, termination decisions. In collaboration with departmental leadership, they also participate in multi-year strategic planning and oversee the development, management, and monitoring of budgets for assigned portfolios, ensuring alignment of resources with program growth, compliance, and quality improvement priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 5-8 years related work experience required in Program and/or Project Management.
  • Advanced skills with Microsoft applications which may include Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Access and other web-based applications.
  • May produce complex documents, perform analysis and maintain databases.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in developing and implementing multiple large and smaller complex projects simultaneously.
  • Works with the leadership team to develop proposals for operational and process improvement projects related (but not limited) to: service excellence, patient safety, clinical compliance, and operations improvement.
  • Ensures appropriate project prioritization and requests for resources.
  • Ensures programs and projects are appropriately managed and delivered on time, within budget, to meet the strategic and operational needs of the department.
  • Develops project work plans including identification of key stakeholders, deliverables, timelines and required resources for initiatives.
  • Designs data collection methods and data analyses, measurement and analytic strategies to monitor the key performance indicators and outcomes of projects over time.
  • Interprets and reports data to a variety of audiences and uses data to support recommendations for business planning decisions, resource requests and during the annual budget planning process which encompasses.
  • Designs communication strategies for project progress.
  • Ensures timely and consistent communication of project priorities, status, timelines, and deliverables to the user community.
  • Creates reports and dashboards to track performance against divisional goals.
  • Has the authority to direct and support employees daily work activities.
  • Has the direct responsibility to undertake the following employment actions: hiring, termination, corrective action and performance reviews.
