About The Position

The Section of Transplantation is built on a strong history of surgical excellence, including the first-ever animal organ transplant in 1904. Over the years, the section has gone on to achieve many more 'firsts,' including the first successful living donor liver transplant and the first heart-liver-kidney transplant in the world. Today, UChicago Medicine is home to one of the busiest organ transplant centers in the nation and offers more transplant options than any other program in Illinois.What our surgeons can achieve in the operating room would not be possible without the ongoing work that is done in our laboratories, and this is especially true in the Section of Transplantation. Our researchers are well known for their basic science research in transplantation tolerance and clinical trial work around islet cell transplantation for diabetes. The Senior Research Professional will be responsible for the execution of the pancreatic islet processing procedures for the purpose of the clinical transplantation according to the current GMP and other applicable regulations. It includes all necessary preparation procedures and maintaining 24/7 readiness for the islet isolation procedures.

Requirements

  • Minimum requirements include a PhD in related field.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains operations related to the pancreatic islet processing for the purpose of the clinical transplantation, which includes preparation and execution of the processing as well as maintaining appropriate documentation related to those procedures.
  • Facilitates and promotes research project(s) related to the clinical application of pancreatic islet transplantation and assist the Primary Investigator in those projects.
  • Supervises the respective research staff and assigns projects in order to facilitate, promote and contribute to PI's research projects/laboratory.
  • Serves as a resource for collecting data and performing analysis.
  • Contributes to facilitating and promoting a research project by providing scientific or intellectual information.
  • Reviews laboratory protocols and training on new techniques.
  • Manage complex data sets for research.
  • Leads the contributions to scientific writing and publications, including protocols and grants.
  • Trains new laboratory personnel.
  • Uses specialized depth and breadth of expertise to lead and conduct research experiments.
  • Interprets and collects data and trains others in the interpretation of data.
  • Leads the dissemination of data and significantly contributes to scientific publications and grant writing.
  • Leads others to solve complex problems, providing expertise to the team which includes of scientists and clinicians from the University and nationally.
  • Provides expertise to identify protocol problems, inform investigators of problems, or assist in problem resolution efforts, such as protocol revisions.
  • Provides expertise to evaluate factors such as sample collection processes, data management plans, or potential subject risks.
  • Performs other related work as needed.
