About The Position

The successful applicant will be knowledgeable in methods of mouse model generation; Dissect, process, mount/embed, cryosection and immunohistochemical staining of relevant ocular specimens and tissues; imagining and subsequent analysis of stained tissues; image capturing with microscope including live imagining microscopes. Isolation of protein, RNA, and DNA from cultured cells and isolated murine ocular tissues with standard methods for western blot, PCR, and ELISA assays; Statistical and image analyses with various programs including Prism; Image J; Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator; Microsoft Excel; NIS-Elements; and generating presentation slides using Microsoft PowerPoint; Orient, train and oversee any new laboratory members and summer/year-out students rotating through the laboratory; General laboratory organization including ordering reagents, preparation of media and solutions, maintain laboratory logs, inventories of freezer stocks, general laboratory equipment and maintenance; following all compliance procedures and completing all necessary associated forms; Write and edit manuscripts along with the PI; Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Philosophy, and 5 to 7 years of postdoctoral experience is required.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate, contribute, and manage development of multiple projects, devices and study protocols at direction of Principal Investigator.
  • Leads research team to design and conduct qualitative research, instrument development projects which includes proposal development, research design, data collection, survey design, qualitative analyses, and report writing.
  • Develops literature, reports, manuscripts and publications to drive funding opportunities.
  • Develops relationships with existing and potential funders, research partners, research sites, regulatory offices and affiliated organizations as part of stakeholder management.
  • This individual will be responsible for training undergraduate, graduate, and MD/ or PhDs proper techniques to work within facility.
  • An ability to function semi-autonomously in close partnership with Principal Investigator to ensure success of all researches/clinical studies.
  • This position will be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Cui Lab at the F. M. Kirby Center for Molecular Ophthalmology.
  • Applicant will be supervised by the PI and will support the research of the PI aiming to decrease the global burden of glaucomatous optic neuropathy using murine models of ocular hypertension.
  • May be responsible for team performance management and reviews.
  • Perform data analysis and other aspects of quantitative and qualitative research as well as theoretical research
  • Review, edit, format, and write manuscripts for publication and of grant proposals
  • Assist with and often direct the design and implementation of original surveys
