ATL maintains research and development relationships with government agencies, key universities, industry partners and thought leaders What our team does: This position is within the Trusted Intelligence Laboratory (TIL). Our mission is to create new competencies for Lockheed Martin for development of Trusted-by-Design Intelligent Systems. TIL technology focus areas include Neuro-Symbolic and Generative AI, AI Assurance, and Human-AI Trust. TIL current application areas are Autonomy, Counter-Autonomy, Command and Control, and Cognitive Security. Advances in AI and Autonomy are poised to have a transformational impact on society. We are growing our areas of research to lead future technology advances in applied formal methods, simulation, test, verification, validation, and certification of autonomous and AI-enabled systems across air, land, sea, space and cyber domains. What you will do: Co-developing research ideas for internal and external customers. Leading/co-leading the development, implementation, and evaluation of ideas in software. Developing AI and autonomy algorithms with strong mathematical foundations. Co-author technical reports and/or research papers. This role is scoped as Hybrid with an onsite requirement in either our Arlington, VA or Cherry Hill, NJ locations. If the selected applicant will be badged to a location within 15 miles of the Camden, NJ City Hall, the role will be represented by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). #LMATL

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related areas with strong mathematical background
  • Conducted research primarily in neuro-symbolic AI, combining methods such as answer set programming (ASP), ProbLog, Logic Tensor Networks (LTNs), or other logic-based frameworks with deep neural networks in semi/self-supervised tasks and/or reinforcement learning problems.
  • Expertise in working with Large Pre-trained Models (LPTMs), such as Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision Language Models (VLMs), Decision Transformers, and/or other multi-modal models.
  • Solid publication record with at least 2 papers in top conference venues, such as, NeurIPS, CVPR, ICRA, RSS, AAAI, UAI, ICLR/ICLM, ICSE, ICCPS, SAFECOMP, HSCC, CAV.
  • Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance that requires U.S. citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information

Nice To Haves

  • Conducted research in at least one more adjacent area such as formal verification/methods (e.g., theorem provers, SMT/SAT solvers, etc.) or assurance and scalability of Cyber-Physical Systems (e.g., runtime monitors, software analysis methods, decentralized decisions, etc.).
  • Experience in defining research problems independently and executing the research work.
  • Experience in collaborative research with people from academia and/or industry and/or government labs.
  • Experience in co-authoring white papers and/or proposals to government agencies (e.g., NSF, DARPA, NASA, etc.).
