About The Position

Researcher will undertake research in theoretical physics, with a focus on quantum foundations as outlined in the Templeton Foundation grant “SoCal Quantum Foundations Hub: Knowledge and Agency in Quantum Physics”. Under general minimal supervision, independently and in collaboration with other others; analyze, organize, and prepare publications; maintain current knowledge of appropriate related scientific literature; assist with research training for undergraduate and graduate students, and post-docs. Responsibilities Advanced Research Activities Lead independent research initiatives in quantum foundations aligned with the Templeton Foundation grant. Plan, perform, direct and analyze various projects in the foundations of physics Assist with development and refinement of research protocols and experimental procedures Present findings at meetings. Compile and organize research findings for internal and externa Prepare progress reports for funding agencies. Research Documentation and Dissemination Maintain research datasets, protocols, and project documentation Assist with preparation of presentations, manuscripts, and grant proposal Compile and organize research findings for internal and external dissemination Assist with data analysis and preparation of figures, tables, and reports Recognize and investigate important issues in the foundations of physics Contribute to the development of research documentation for publication and/or presentation. May co-author or be the primary author of results. Collaboration Provide guidance and mentorship on research methods and data collection procedures Collaborate with interdisciplinary research team members to support project goals Lead research training for undergraduate and graduate students, and post-docs Perform other duties as assigned related to management of research activities, e.g., assisting with conference and seminar organizing, assisting with hosting research visitors, etc.

Requirements

  • Master’s and research experience in foundations of physics or related discipline
  • 4-6 years minimum experience in foundations of physics
  • Working knowledge of mathematical tools needed in foundations of physics
  • Ability to evaluate resource needs and appropriately request/order additional resources as needed.
  • Ability to innovatively meet required needs with available resource.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Institute policies, regulations, and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to lead, supervise and provide guidance to staff and students performing research work.
