About The Position

BluePath Labs is a fast-growing research and consulting company committed to solving complex problems for federal, state, and local government clients. We offer a range of professional, scientific, and technology services. Our specific areas of expertise include business consulting, research and data science, and technology integration. We are actively seeking a Senior Research Analyst with high-level Chinese-language skills and deep knowledge of the People's Republic of China defense and technology systems to support multiple clients. Work Description: The Senior Research Analyst will design and conduct research studies on varied timelines, communicate those results to the client and other audiences as appropriate, assist in mentoring and supervision of junior analysts and research trainees, and support the development of new business opportunities. The ideal candidate will be efficient, be self-motivated and able to work independently, be able to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, and have a wide range of interests related to national security, geopolitics, the People's Republic of China, and emerging critical technologies. U.S citizenship is required for this position.

Requirements

• M.A. in international affairs, China studies, or a similar field
• High-level Chinese language skills (roughly ILR 4, DLPT 3, and/or HSK 5 for reading and writing is needed, although we do not require formal test results to apply)
• Five years of research experience
• U.S. citizenship
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills

Nice To Haves

• M.A. with eight years of work experience or Ph.D. with three years of work experience in international affairs, political science, policy analysis, China studies, or a similar field
• Experience proposing, designing, and conducting large research projects using Chinese-language sources
• A record of high-quality publications related to China's military, defense industrial base
• An ability to work independently with minimal oversight while meeting firm deadlines and ensuring all work requirements are completed to the client's satisfaction
• Experience using Python
• Fluency in other languages, particularly Russian, Spanish, or French

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct research projects ranging from brief reports to multi-year investigations, working both independently and with a small team
• Collect, structure, and analyze data in multiple languages, including Chinese, in support of client and company needs.
• Continuously explore and develop new research tools and skills in line with client needs and shifting data availability
• Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and other audiences about BPL's work
• Assist in the development of bespoke automated tools to support the team's work
• Mentor and support junior analysts and trainees
• Support company business development as needed
