This role is with Octus, a rapidly growing tech-powered financial news and data company, a leader in leveraged finance and distressed debt news and analysis. They are seeking highly motivated reporters to cover leveraged finance, private credit, and M&A activity. This is an opportunity to contribute to a new coverage model in a collaborative environment. The ideal candidate should be curious, self-motivated, possess outstanding interpersonal skills, and have significant prior experience covering debt capital markets and debt origination. The position is based in Octus' New York City office, operating on a hybrid schedule requiring 3 days in the office per week.

Requirements

  • Experience writing about debt capital markets, and specifically leveraged finance and LBOs, M&A
  • Experience writing about fund raising, deal valuations, credit quality and its intersection with private equity and LP formation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; self motivated; ability to multitask and work in a fast paced newsroom environment
  • Write clearly and concisely under deadline pressure and derive trends from issuance, pricing and other market patterns.
  • Scoop driven reporter with a stable of reliable sources in private credit, investment banking, fund and asset management industries
  • The candidate must be collaborative and enjoy working in a multicultural team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Help build out Octus’ coverage of private debt/capital markets, including private equity, credit secondaries, fund raising and M&A
  • Develop and maintain rapport with private credit shops, private equity firms, M&A bankers and leverage loan investor contacts
  • Identify and report on new trends and developments in private credit, the secondary private capital markets and M&A/LBOs
  • Collaborate with financial and legal analysts, and other reporters across multiple sectors
