About The Position

Recognized as the No. 1 site trusted by real estate professionals, Realtor.com has been at the forefront of online real estate for over 25 years, connecting buyers, sellers, and renters with trusted insights and expert guidance to find their perfect home. Through its robust suite of tools, Realtor.com not only makes a significant impact on the real estate industry at large, but for consumers, navigating the biggest purchase they will make in their life, by providing a user experience that is easy to use, easy to understand, and most of all, easy to make decisions. Join us on our mission to empower more people to find their way home by breaking barriers to entry, making the right connections, and building confidence through expert guidance. Realtor.com's News & Insights team is seeking an enterprising and sharp Sr. Reporter to cover housing policy, real estate, and economic development from our nation's capital. This is a high-impact role for a journalist eager to break news, translate complex data into accessible stories, and explore how policy decisions shape housing markets and communities across America. This is a pivotal time for housing in America-nearly two-thirds of American households own their own home, and homeowners are sitting on a record high amount of equity. Yet, the dream of homeownership feels further out of reach for the next generation as costs soar, existing home sales are stuck near 30-year lows, and homeownership rates slip for younger households. In this role, you'll report on federal, state, and local policies that influence affordability, supply, zoning, and homeownership, while keeping a close eye on major housing and economic development trends emerging from Washington, D.C. You'll work closely with our in-house Economics team, leveraging their data and forecasts to tell timely, consumer-friendly stories that help readers make sense of the housing market. This role is ideal for a reporter who has a deep interest in real estate, economics, and policy, and who is excited to contribute to Realtor.com's News & Insights team. This role reports to the VP, Editorial and Content.

  • A proven track record of sourcing and breaking original news.
  • Familiarity with SEO principles and a comfort with fast-paced digital publishing.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills-you'll be part of a tight-knit, high-performing editorial team.
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, economics, or a related field preferred.

  • Monitor developments from Congress, HUD, the White House, and local government that affect the housing market and economic growth.
  • Develop and maintain strong industry and policy contacts, including government sources, economists, think-tanks, and housing advocates.
  • Apply best practices in SEO, headline writing, and audience engagement to maximize visibility and impact.
  • Coordinate with editors to package stories with graphics, charts, videos, or interactive visuals where appropriate.
