This Repair Design Engineer (RDE) position is in the Cases & Composites Group within the Aftermarket Services Engineering (ASE) commercial jet engine repair group. The RDE is responsible for the design of repairs for gas turbine engine parts including development of the repair concept, writing of the repair, obtaining task approvals, and coordination with the manufacturing organization that performs the repair. Establish repair design requirements and ensure repairs are safe, durable, and match the quality requirements of OEM parts. Research how damage affects gas turbine engine component operation and develop engineering-based solutions which will return damaged parts back to airworthiness. Create technical documents that provide the manufacturing organization the engineering requirements for repairs. Interface with commercial engine program managers to secure priorities and understand how the repair affects the engine fleet. Support the customer in the resolution of field supportability issues. Ensure repair tasks are completed to schedule and on budget. Support career development of lower level design engineers Review work of lower level design engineers Provide feedback for Engineering Standard Work and productivity initiatives Lead repair development projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace or Materials Engineering
  • Minimum 8+ years of mechanical design or manufacturing engineering experience or 5+ years of experience with an Advanced degree
  • U.S. Citizenship required due to government contracts
  • Experience in the use of Unigraphics/NX or similar CAD application

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to cost and schedule management or team leadership is desired.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes such as machining, plating, plasma spray, welding or brazing is also desired
