About The Position

Supervises and performs calibration, installation, and maintains protective relays and associated equipment which will ensure the efficient, safe, and reliable and NERC Reliability Standards compliant operation of Seminole generating plants and transmission networks. Responsible for performing work involving an extremely high degree of complexity, including troubleshooting, repairing, overhauling, calibrating, and maintaining components of protective relay systems in accordance with applicable company and NERC standards.

Requirements

  • Associate of Science Degree in Electrical Technology or related area and eight (8) years of experience in calibrating, installing, and in-service testing of electro-mechanical and static or microprocessor relay systems. OR Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering, Technology or related area and four (4) years of experience in in calibrating, installing, and in-service testing of electro-mechanical and static or microprocessor relay systems. OR Two (2) years of similar experience may be substituted for each one (1) year of education.

  • The employee must be able to lift and carry test equipment up to ninety (90) pounds. Position may require occasional work out of an aerial bucket truck. Must be able to follow established protective measures including wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE). Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Must be willing to travel as required in Seminole service area and work extended hours in emergencies to restore service, or as directed. Travel will generally be to remote substation and generation sites, including sites under construction. While working in certain areas of the plant and other sites there is the potential for exposure to hazards typical of an industrial working environment.

Responsibilities

  • Interprets NERC Reliability Standards to ensure adherence to required specifications, maintenance activity and evidence retention
  • Supports the Capital Project Budget, O&M Budget and Job Order Development, including authorization, justifications, gate reviews, and specification development and bidding process for transmission substation and plant protection, SCADA, and controls equipment.
  • Supports the development of departmental goals, tracking and reporting.
  • Ensures maintenance activities are performed in strict accordance with all Seminole practices and procedures.
  • Assigns work tasks to personnel in support of project and periodic schedules in addition to emergency maintenance requirements.
  • Leads the on-the-job training of personnel ensuring a high standard of technical and professional development.
  • Schedules, coordinates, and instructs SCADA and protective relaying training, as needed.
  • Write relay testing procedures using technical manuals, electrical drawings, vendor manuals and any other applicable information.
  • Supervises and performs: 1. electro-mechanical, static and microprocessor protective relay calibration, testing and maintenance. 2. test carrier, tone equipment and other pilot channels testing and maintenance. 3. SCADA equipment testing and maintenance. 4. metering and telemetering circuit testing and maintenance.
  • Oversees the testing and commissioning of substation and plant protection equipment coupled with substation SCADA and control circuits.
  • Oversees the troubleshooting and repair of substation and plant protection equipment coupled with substation SCADA and control equipment.
  • Develops protective relay and SCADA testing procedures using technical manuals, electric drawings, vendor manuals and other applicable information.
  • Ensures appropriate and accurate records of all calibration and maintenance activities associated with protective relays are properly stored using PMIS or other appropriate tools.
  • Ensures adherence to equipment safety and clearance procedures and practices.
  • Supports the execution of corporate, division and department initiatives and objectives.
  • Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.
  • NERC Compliance: Performs NERC Compliance Program roles if/as designated in Seminole's Standard Ownership Matrix (SOM) including ongoing evidence retention in "audit-ready" form. You should also be familiar with Seminole's Enterprise Internal Compliance Program (ENT-GCD-RGC-EP-054) to further your understanding of Seminole's compliance program and your duties and responsibilities in the SOM.
