About The Position

The Senior Relationship Manager is responsible for developing, managing, growing, and deepening relationships with business banking clients in the assigned business segment and/or geographic areas. This role actively engages in the sales process of the assigned Region to ensure the attainment of business bank, region, and individual goals and objectives, while adhering to WaFd Bank credit quality standards, risk management guidelines, and compliance. The position involves managing and growing an extensive portfolio of business clients, with a focus on acquiring, deepening, and maintaining profitable client relationships through sales, prospecting, and enhancing existing relationships. It also includes analyzing financial statement reports, conducting thorough due diligence, assessing credit risk, and executing prudent underwriting practices for loan proposals. The Senior Relationship Manager monitors and manages an assigned loan portfolio, staying aware of market conditions, and works closely with clients to provide effective financial solutions. The role requires executing consistent outbound sales strategies to drive growth in business loans, deposits, merchant processing, and treasury management products. As the primary point of contact and trusted advisor, the manager identifies and develops new profitable relationships, supports other Relationship Managers and colleagues, and participates in community activities. They must develop a strong understanding of WaFd Bank’s product offering and credit philosophy, negotiate and close loan transactions, ensuring compliance with Bank policy and regulatory requirements. The role also involves representing the Bank in civic and community affairs, executing strategic plans, interfacing with other Bank departments, and resolving client needs. Adherence to bank policies and procedures, including federal regulations like the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act, and OFAC, is mandatory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or equivalent.
  • Minimum 7 -10 years of banking experience required.
  • Minimum 7 years of commercial lending experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of Bank products and services.
  • Extensive knowledge of Bank operations, policies and procedures and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, manage, grow, and deepen relationships with business banking clients in the assigned business segment and/or geographic areas.
  • Actively engage in the sales process of the assigned Region to ensure the attainment of the business bank, region, and individual goals and objectives, while adhering to WaFd Bank credit quality standards, risk management guidelines, and compliance.
  • Manage and grow an extensive portfolio of business clients, with a focus on acquiring, deepening, and maintaining profitable client relationships through sales, prospecting and enhancing existing relationships.
  • Analyze financial statement reports, conducting thorough due diligence, assess credit risk, and execute prudent and sound underwriting practices of loan proposals and recommendations to credit administration for review and approval.
  • Monitor and manage an assigned loan portfolio and maintain awareness of competitive landscape, company-specific developments, industry trends, economic factors, rates and other changes in market conditions that may impact the credit strength of the portfolio.
  • Work closely with existing and new clients to understand their specific financial requirements and provide effective solutions, while maintaining the credit quality standards of the bank.
  • Execute consistent and systematic outbound sales strategies and business development efforts aimed to drive growth in business loans/lines and deposits, merchant processing, treasury management products lines that drives profitability growth.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact and be a trusted advisor to clients, deepening and maintaining profitable relationships.
  • Identify and develop new profitable relationships with prospects and clients consistent with the objectives of the bank through extensive business development activity.
  • Support other Relationship Managers, Analysts, and other colleagues to provided customers and prospects the solutions recommended.
  • Occasionally assist business bankers and other relationship managers within their assigned area on calls to help them advance their skills.
  • Participate in internal and external community activities as a representative of WaFd Bank, promoting the brand and attracting new colleagues and customers.
  • Develops a strong understanding of WaFd Bank’s product offering and credit philosophy to more effectively assist in client calling efforts and to become a trusted advisor to clients.
  • Negotiate transactions; document and close loan transactions, ensures conformance with Bank policy and regulatory requirements.
  • Exercise sound credit and risk judgment when making loan proposals.
  • Recommend approval of credits meeting or exceeding the banks credit standards.
  • Ensure the quality of all business introduced to the Bank.
  • Represent the Bank by actively participating in outside civic and community affairs, business and industry-related organizations, and other professional activities as appropriate.
  • Execute on the strategic plan developed by the Regional President and Executive Director.
  • Interface with other Bank departments including the branches within their assigned area as necessary.
  • Take a lead role in defining responsibilities and coordinating objectives for all product areas in a relationship or transaction, particularly deposits and treasury management products.
  • Resolve all client needs and any internal fiction points.
  • Adhere to bank policies and procedures designed to comply with federal regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act and OFAC regulations.
