About The Position

The Senior Registered Nurse Supervisor at the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs is responsible for providing quality professional care to veteran residents, ensuring their health, safety, and security in accordance with established agency Standard Operating Procedures and the Nurse Practice Act. The position involves supervising nursing personnel, performing assessments, administering medications, and ensuring compliance with nursing standards. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Executive Nursing Director and is expected to maintain a clean and safe environment while participating in quality improvement programs.

Requirements

  • Must be a current employee of the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs.
  • Licensure as a Florida State Registered Professional Nurse.
  • Three (3) years of professional nursing, psychiatric nursing or nursing instructions experience.
  • One (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and Word.
  • Valid CPR certification.
  • Willing to work weekends and/or holidays as required.
  • Successful completion of the employment screening process.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a long-term healthcare environment with a geriatric population.
  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, psychiatric nursing or nursing education can substitute for two years of the required experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide initial and ongoing assessment of the resident population.
  • Administer medications and treatments per MD order.
  • Monitor and provide interventions to meet the needs of the resident.
  • Complete accurate clinical documentation reflective of resident’s current status.
  • Supervise and guide RN, LPN, CNA, and other Allied Health Care Professionals.
  • Ensure nursing personnel are following their job descriptions.
  • Review shift assignments and ensure they meet the specific nursing care needs of residents.
  • Coordinate assignments to maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Notify Administrator and/or DON of any emergency situations.
  • Make daily rounds to observe residents and determine if nursing needs are being met.
  • Observe nursing staff giving care at least once during an eight-hour shift.
  • Maintain standards of nursing care and implement facility policies.
  • Assist in the review of policies and procedures.
  • Complete reports and forward to DON/RN.
  • Ensure all verbal orders from physicians are received by a registered nurse.
  • Participate in economic utilization of supplies and ensure equipment is maintained.
  • Assist with emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients.
  • Actively participate in continuing educational programs for self-development.
