About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) at Parkland is a licensed professional who utilizes the Parkland nursing professional practice model to coordinate patient care delivery by the healthcare team. This role involves assessing patients, identifying nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, developing and implementing an individualized plan of care, and evaluating the patient's response. The RN applies knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to help patients transition through their healthcare encounter without preventable complications or delays. Interventions are delegated to healthcare personnel in accordance with the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient's condition, and the competencies of the employee. Requirements

  • Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must have two years of nursing experience.
  • Must have a current, valid RN license or temporary RN license from the Texas Board of Nursing, or a valid Compact RN license.
  • Must have current healthcare provider BLS for Healthcare Providers certification from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Military Training Network.
  • Must be able to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills.
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • May be required to communicate effectively, via the overhead paging system.
  • Must be able to demonstrate patient-centered/patient valued behaviors.
  • As applicable, will be required to demonstrate acceptable knowledge of nursing standards of care for specialty care areas.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate patient care delivery by the health care team using the Parkland nursing professional practice model.
  • Assess the patient, identify nursing diagnoses based on responses to health problems, develop and implement an individualized plan of care, and evaluate the patient's response.
  • Utilize knowledge of patient needs and the healthcare environment to assist patients to transition through the healthcare encounter without any preventable complications or delays.
  • Delegate interventions to health care personnel based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, each patient's condition, and the competencies of the employee.
  • Provide care to the assigned patient population in accordance with the current State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area-specific standards.
  • Provide continuous assessment, consult with other team members as required, and provide nursing care that demonstrates patient-centered/patient-valued care.
  • Exercise independent judgment in providing nursing care.
  • Provide direction to non-nursing staff.
  • Serve as a preceptor.
  • Serve on rotation as a Charge Nurse.
  • Prepare and conduct in-service educational programs.
  • Identify ways to improve work processes and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Make recommendations to supervisor, implement, and monitor results as appropriate in support of the overall goals of the department and Parkland.
  • Stay abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in the field by attending seminars/workshops, reading professional journals, actively participating in professional organizations, and/or maintaining certification or licensure.
  • Integrate knowledge gained into current work practices.
  • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the area.
  • Develop effective internal controls designed to promote adherence with applicable laws, accreditation agency requirements, and federal, state, and private health plans.
  • Seek advice and guidance as needed to ensure proper understanding.
