The Senior Regional Advisor at Texas A&M University plays a crucial role in shaping the future of the Higher Education Center at McAllen. This position involves crafting and executing innovative admission, financial aid, and outreach strategies to attract and enroll prospective students. The advisor will mentor and train staff, oversee recruitment programs, and ensure strong engagement in designated territories, including the Rio Grande Valley, Corpus Christi, and Laredo.

  • Increase the number of admitted and enrolled underserved students in designated high schools, community colleges, and regions.
  • Guide prospective students and parents through admissions, scholarships, and financial aid processes.
  • Coordinate with high school counselors and implement recruitment activities.
  • Organize and report on programs/projects.
  • Travel to high schools and community colleges for visits and presentations.
  • Distribute admissions information through various programs and visits.
  • Collaborate with outside organizations for recruitment activities.
  • Coordinate with school counselors for admitted students' next steps.
  • Provide information on pathways to admission, housing, orientation, and student resources.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Four years' experience in admissions, recruitment, advising, financial aid, or outreach.
  • A State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Master's degree.
  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • More than four years of professional experience in higher education admissions, recruitment, student advising, student financial aid or student services related position.
  • Professional experience in higher education.
  • Professional experience within TAMUS.
  • Knowledge in recruiting a varied range of students, including incoming freshmen, transfer, veterans, and non-traditional students.
  • Customer service experience, particularly within higher education.
  • Experience in producing reports of the analysis and evaluation of activities.
  • Participation in Texas Association for College Admission Counseling (TACAC) or Texas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (TACRAO) programs or other professional organizations related to admissions, recruitment, student advising, student financial aid or student services.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic project management and organizational practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of principles, practice and methods of admissions, marketing, and enrollment.
  • General knowledge of higher education institution general academic requirements and admission policies.
  • General knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, and techniques of customer service.
  • Proficiency in related student information systems such as Banner, AIS, Howdy, MOSES, SLATE, or TAMUDocs.
  • Ability to design, develop, conduct, and assess effective programs.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to develop and conduct group presentations for various audiences.
  • Ability to work in an environment subject to regular interruptions, multi-tasking, and re-prioritizing potentially conflicting assignments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of FERPA and SLATE.
  • Ability to comply with Texas A&M, System, State and Federal laws, regulations, rules, and policies.
