About the position

The City of Cupertino Parks and Recreation department is recruiting for Senior Recreation Leaders to work in our summer programs for youth, teens, and families. Under limited supervision, the Senior Recreation Leader assists the Recreation Coordinator in planning, organizing, supervising, and leading recreational activities and other related work as required. Senior Recreation Leaders plan and lead activities for youth, teens, and families in a variety of Recreation services. The Senior Recreation Leader is assigned to the Cupertino Parks and Recreation department and represents the City before the general public. This position emphasizes leadership, mentoring, and customer service. Job duties will vary depending on program areas assigned to.
Responsibilities
- Engages youth or teens in a variety of positive, fun, and age-appropriate activities.
- Supervises program participants.
- Assists with leading activities, programs, and events.
- Maintains a positive and safe work environment.
- Encourages participation and facilitates activities.
- Supports fellow Recreation Leaders and Senior Recreation Leaders and participates in maintenance of facility and equipment.
- Assist with supervising volunteers and ensures that the assigned programs meet the needs and interests of the participants.
- Attend staff meetings and respect departmental policies and procedures.
- Answer questions and field complaints from customers and refer them to appropriate staff.
- Performs other duties as required.
Requirements
- 500 hours of relevant work experience required.
- One year of related college courses desired.
- Must be a minimum of 16 years old by June 10, 2024.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification desirable.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience working with special needs youth and teens is highly desirable.
- Customer service experience is a plus.
