As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers. GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land. GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2025-2026 fiscal year budget of $12.969 million for general fund operations and Measure K funding amounting to $2.2 million. The Measure K funding is being utilized to purchase necessary equipment, improve parks, facilities. JOB DESCRIPTION Class specifications are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties performed by employees in the class. DEFINITION Under general supervisor, provide a safe and enjoyable experience for participants in the following recreational programs areas: sports, aquatics, youth services and camps, teens, special events, Children’s Wonderland, and therapeutic recreation; lead and oversee staff responsible for supervising participants; and perform a variety of tasks in support of assigned function. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives general supervision from Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Coordinator or Assistant Coordinator. Exercises functional and technical supervision over Recreation Leaders. ESSENTIAL AND MARGINAL FUNCTION STATEMENTS - Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to the following: Essential Functions: Lead and oversee the staff and volunteers responsible for overseeing participants in the recreation programs. Implement and lead various recreational activities, including crafts, games, sports, and field trips; prepare a weekly schedule for assigned site. Collect fees and issue receipts; update enrollment and payments in the recreation software system; follow up on payment discrepancies and missed payments with program participants. For ongoing programs, update registration forms of enrolled participants as needed, and post in the recreation software system. Take attendance daily from class list provided through recreation software system. L ead recreational activities; supervise participants and ensure safety rules and guidelines are followed; report unsafe conditions to supervisory personnel. Resolve conflicts among participants. Provide information to the public on program activities. Respond to parent, school or community concerns and issues using appropriate communication skills, direct to higher level staff as necessary. May provide schedule of staff for assigned sites. Perform first aid as necessary. Update inventory of equipment and supplies at program as well as purchase with program funds. Marginal Functions: Assist in the general cleaning and upkeep of facilities. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required. Train new Recreation Leaders assigned to site.
