About The Position

The Senior Recreation Assistant plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for participants, particularly those with dementia, by creating, implementing, and evaluating recreational activities. This position focuses on promoting socialization, physical activity, and cognitive engagement through various activities tailored to meet the needs of elderly populations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in social or recreational programs with frail or elderly population.
  • Education or training in geriatrics, including dementia preferred.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and conflict management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite/basic knowledge of e-mail/calendaring systems.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to change.
  • Some travel within the region may be required.
  • Ability to change and be flexible with work priorities. Strong problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute activities for dementia-specific populations, including small groups and one-on-one sessions.
  • Lead group and individual activities to meet participants' cognitive, physical, social, and artistic needs.
  • Promote socialization, expansion of personal interests, increased physical activity, and continued lifelong learning.
  • Create and maintain activity care plans and monthly calendars.
  • Develop a quarterly newsletter for participants and caregivers.
  • Ensure recreational supplies are stocked and report participant status changes to medical staff.
  • Collaborate with personal care aides to ensure participant safety and comfort.
  • Assist in toileting/transporting participants as needed.
