About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Rail and Transit Architect to join our growing team in New York, NY to help drive the expansive growth of our rail and transit team. We are seeking an individual with strong interpersonal skill and technical proficiency to bring solutions for architectural problems and the coordination of related transit oriented project activities while professionally interacting with clients at the highest levels. The successful candidate will be able to work with all levels of staff within the firm and will take initiative to design and implement projects from start to finish. This position requires studio staff management and management of resources from a national pool of talent. The position actively engages with business development & client management teams and contributes to business growth efforts focused on securing and advancing new projects. This is a rapid growth & leadership opportunity. Your role Business & Project Leadership Ability to provide architectural team leadership, interact with senior management and play a decisive role in project pursuits. Supervises project delivery and senior technical professionals and provides direction on employee development activities and shared goals throughout the technical discipline. Assists with the evaluation of and identifies current and future staffing availability based on technical and budgetary requirements of future workload and manpower projections. Project Production and Management: Ensure appropriate staff allocation to projects in consideration of project schedules, budgets, key milestone dates and work products. Marketing and Client Maintenance: Participates in pursuing new project opportunities for the firm by maintaining contacts with current and prospective clients. Contribution to prepositioning efforts, teaming arrangement, staffing plans and scope, schedule and fee preparation in the pursuit of new opportunities. Possess an Entrepreneurial spirit and a desire for career advancement. Strong commercial acumen and understanding of financial performance, metrics and risk management. Design & Technical Leadership Ability to Sign and Seal design documents. Ability to present oneself professionally to clients. Ability to routinely interface with clients and keep clients properly informed. Work collaboratively with the Rail and Transit Market leadership in the presentation of our technical skills to perspective clients. Ability to perform programming, planning and other conceptual design activities. Develop designs and sketches to be input into Revit-based construction documents as well as direct a project team to do the same. Demonstrated past ability to lead production of project documents through all stages of design and construction. Ability to mentor junior staff and lead a project team to produce a complete set of construction documents. Ability to perform QC review for design & red-line documents for production staff in BlueBeam or using another digital format. Ability to coordinate with sub-consultants and other disciplines and mentor junior staff to do the same. Ability to create organized Exhibits in BlueBeam and PowerPoint for client and team review. Ability to direct & perform (if required) site observation and field work including site investigations, existing facility inventory and field measured documentation. Provide status reports of progress on architectural documents. Communicate regularly with the team and stay within the hours budgeted for tasks assigned. Maintains accountability of financial performance. Advanced knowledge of local building codes, FEDERAL and STATE compliance requirements and experience with MTA code reviews processes and achieve a consensus. Ability to work in a multidisciplinary buildings environment while leading the coordination of disciplines including but not limited to: MEP, Structural, Civil, Environmental, Planning, Code, Interiors, Passenger experience, Cost Estimating, etc.… Ability to consult product manufacturers, vendors and contractors, to evaluate, and obtain accurate constructability, cost information and select materials, equipment specification and inspection of architectural features in the field. Familiarity with Alternative Delivery (Design Build, Progressive Desing Build, CMAR, etc) methods Ability to effectively work on multiple projects or issues simultaneously. Ability to analyze information and propose effective solutions on own initiative. An understanding of the mechanics 3D models in BIM and other digital formats. (The intent is not to perform production task, just provide oversight.) Performs such other duties as the Supervisor determine necessary to support the Architecture Practice.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Professional Registration in the State of New York required, additional states a plus
  • Minimum 20 years of relevant work experience to include all phases of architectural drafting, detailing, and assisting with the oversight of consultants and clients.
  • Minimum 10 Years experience with the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority (MTA) delivering Building and Facilities projects including Transit Stations, Operations and Maintenance facilities, Ancillary support facilities, commercial spaces, etc…
  • Advanced knowledge of building systems and experience in implementation of various building systems and project types such as (aviation, rail, transit, commercial, education).
  • Demonstrated NY MTA Rail and Transit experience mandatory.
  • Ability to present oneself professionally to clients as well as maintain credible “industry leader” approach.
  • Ability to routinely interface and develop clients and keep clients properly informed.
  • Provide senior level technical oversight and design delivery from a responsible, accountable leadership position
  • Experience coordinating multi discipline work for complex architectural engineering projects.
  • Experience directing work effort of junior staff to develop project documentation and manage project deliverables.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in architecture or business a plus
  • LEED AP or other sustainability certification or ability to obtain upon request
