About The Position

The position is responsible for the field implementation of the Radiation Safety Program, ensuring compliance with company, local, state, and federal radiation safety policies and regulations. The role involves monitoring radiological work controls and activities involving radioactive material, interpreting and verifying field data obtained from radiation surveys, and ensuring the safe collection, storage, packaging, transportation, and disposal of radioactive material. This is essential for maintaining a healthy workforce and enabling EnergySolutions to achieve its performance goals and remain competitive in the marketplace.

Requirements

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detailed knowledge of local, state, and federal radiation safety compliance regulations.
  • Knowledge of the interpretation of radiation safety compliance regulations.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of radiation safety compliance.
  • Skill in using radiation monitoring instrumentation and methods.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and database applications.
  • Ability to schedule tasks assigned to other radiation safety technicians.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify exposure levels and develop radiation controls.
  • Ability to handle complex work across multiple subject areas.

Nice To Haves

  • National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologist (NRRPT) certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Implement the Radiation Safety Program in the field.
  • Ensure compliance with radiation safety policies and regulations.
  • Monitor radiological work controls and activities involving radioactive material.
  • Interpret and verify field data from radiation surveys.
  • Participate in the safe collection, storage, packaging, transportation, and disposal of radioactive material.
  • Process incoming radioactive shipments and check for contamination or dose levels.
  • Perform wipe tests on packages for contamination removal.
  • Deliver shipments to approved users and cross-check against inventory.
  • Record new and amended permit information for radionuclides received.
  • Stay current on policies regarding shipment and transportation of radioactive materials.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret results of samples for compliance with regulations.
  • Create reports on sample analyses and determine corrective actions.
  • Conduct area surveys to identify elevated exposure or contamination levels.
  • Respond to incidents or emergencies regarding radionuclides.
  • Perform calculations to determine radiation levels and contamination concentrations.
  • Issue radiation work permits and brief personnel on radiological conditions.
  • Maintain data for a radiological work permit system.
  • Develop and process radiation safety procedures and guidance.
  • Operate, issue, and calibrate radiological counting and detection equipment.
  • Perform radiological instrumentation reviews and evaluations.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of radiological controls equipment.
  • Participate in emergency preparation drills and responses.
  • Provide training and implement monitoring programs for personnel protection.
  • Investigate and document radiological occurrences and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain field radiation protection records.
  • Lead and direct the work of Radiation Safety Technician 1 and 2 staff.
  • Provide training to Radiation Safety Technician 1 and 2 staff as needed.
  • Ensure Radiation Safety Technician 1 and 2 staff are qualified to perform their work.
  • Responsible for the safety performance of other radiation safety technicians.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
