About The Position

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent and three years of full-time experience in police enforcement or investigative work, with one year in rackets or police investigative work.

  • Prior law enforcement or criminal justice experience.
  • Experience in investigating domestic violence and hate crimes cases.

  • Experience evaluating credit worthiness.
  • Proficiency in wiretap equipment and surveillance devices.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting, managing, and updating ongoing criminal investigative caseloads with a focus on homicides.
  • Conducting and managing fieldwork, including surveillance and undercover operations.
  • Reviewing complex facts to ascertain their validity.
  • Preparing extensive narrative reports.
  • Providing protective details and witness transportation protection.
  • Executing search warrants leading to arrests.
  • Working in an undercover capacity.
  • Deploying and maintaining electronic investigative equipment.
  • Managing complex and lengthy investigations.
  • Overseeing junior investigators when appropriate.
  • Testifying at grand jury, criminal trials, and other court proceedings.
  • Performing background investigations on employees and contractors.
  • Contacting and interviewing witnesses and subjects.
  • Performing field visits to gather information.
  • Using City databases for background and information searches.
  • Working on special projects as assigned.
