About The Position

The Senior R&D Optical Engineering Technician at Coherent Aerospace & Defense will play a crucial role in the development of advanced laser systems for defense applications. This position involves assembling, repairing, and testing optical components and systems, as well as collaborating with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers to ensure high-quality deliverables.

Requirements

• Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience; or Associate's degree and a minimum of 6 years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience assembling and splicing optical fiber and fiber-coupled components is required.
• Experience assembling, aligning, and cleaning of bulk optics is strongly desired.
• Experience using optical lab test equipment such as power meters and oscilloscopes is required.
• Working knowledge of analog and digital electronics is desired.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills are required.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and other productivity tools is required.
• Experience developing test applications using LabVIEW or other programming languages/tools is a plus.
• Must be able to obtain/maintain a US Government security clearance if required.

Responsibilities

• Assembles, repairs, and tests fiber, bulk optic, and opto-mechanical assemblies for lab experiments, prototypes, and customer deliverables.
• Performs measurements to characterize optical component and system performance using test equipment such as power meters and optical spectrum analyzers.
• Conducts failure analysis of optical assemblies and troubleshoots issues with laser/optical systems and components.
• Supports subsystem integration activities by assembling components and/or assemblies.
• Writes test procedures and maintains test records.
• Communicates test results for component and system-level testing.
• Works collaboratively with a cross-disciplinary team of engineers on technical tasks.
