As a Quantum Engineer in the quantum integrated circuit design team, you will transform our quantum integrated circuit design and simulation workflow, enabling Rigetti to model increasingly complex and larger scale quantum processors, at the 1000Q scale and beyond. Leveraging your experience in computational electromagnetics and commercially available electromagnetic solvers in conjunction with a strong software engineering background, you will accelerate the simulation and optimization of quantum integrated circuits. You will improve both the automation of our modeling tools and the techniques used to simulate our designs, both classically and in the quantum regime, through your expertise in numerical methods and high performance computing.

  • Design and implement industry quality software infrastructure to automate the quantum integrated circuit design workflow, including the classical electromagnetic simulations of the device and the diagonalization of the quantum device Hamiltonian.
  • Accelerate simulations by adapting them for high performance compute clusters, including acceleration with GPU clusters where appropriate.
  • Develop optimization routines that wrap around the automated design and simulation workflow to improve the performance of quantum integrated circuits across a broad range of metrics (loss, crosstalk, etc…)
  • Drive a deeper understanding of our existing quantum processor designs and contribute to the design of next-generation architectures through computational modeling.
  • Collaborate with quantum integrated design and simulation engineers to identify and address inefficiencies in the design process.
  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Applied Mathematics, Physics or a related field.
  • Strong background in computational electromagnetics and numerical methods, with experience with commercial solvers including ANSYS, COMSOL, CST Microwave Studio or similar.
  • Experience in high performance computing.
  • Knowledge of state-of-the-art computational optimization techniques
  • Programming skills in Python for scientific applications, ideally in an industry or highly collaborative environment.
  • Familiarity with quantum mechanics and in particular, circuit quantum electrodynamics.
  • Ability to excel in a collaborative environment.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in a technical role within an industry or startup environment
  • Knowledge and/or direct experience in any of these areas:
  • Radio-frequency engineering
  • Superconducting physics
  • Josephson junction physics
  • Integrated circuit design
  • Superconducting qubits
  • competitive salaries
