About The Position

8am is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to join our team and help drive a culture where quality is not a phase - it’s a mindset embedded in every conversation, decision, and line of code. In this role, you’ll serve as both a customer advocate and a technical leader within your embedded scrum team. You’ll design and execute thoughtful testing strategies across UI, API, and backend systems, ensuring our SaaS platform delivers reliable, secure, and high-quality experiences. As a senior member of the team, you’ll influence quality practices across engineering, mentor others, and lead initiatives that directly impact customer trust and product excellence.

Requirements

  • 4–7+ years of experience in software quality engineering, ideally in SaaS or FinTech environments
  • Strong experience testing across UI and API layers, with solid understanding of REST APIs
  • Proficiency with test management tools (e.g., Qase, TestRail) and defect tracking systems
  • Working knowledge of Python or similar scripting languages for test automation
  • Comfortable working in Linux/CLI environments and analyzing logs for troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS), CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices
  • Experience with version control systems like Git (GitHub, Bitbucket)
  • Strong understanding of Agile/Scrum methodologies
  • Proven ability to mentor others and drive quality initiatives
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical issues into customer impact
  • Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve workflows, enhance decision-making, or drive innovation.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in FinTech, payments, or regulated environments (e.g., PCI)
  • Knowledge of microservices, event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ), or distributed architectures
  • Experience with performance, security, or accessibility testing
  • Familiarity with modern QE tools, AI-assisted testing, or test automation strategy

Responsibilities

  • Champion the customer experience by designing test scenarios that reflect real-world usage
  • Identify risks early, challenge unclear or incomplete requirements, and raise quality concerns proactively
  • Ensure defects are thoroughly documented with root cause analysis and clear customer impact
  • Drive improvements in key quality metrics, including Defect Leakage Rate
  • Design and execute comprehensive test strategies across UI, API, and database layers
  • Create and maintain high-quality test cases that tell the story of customer interactions
  • Perform exploratory, functional, and non-functional testing (performance, security, etc.)
  • Collaborate with engineering and SDET teams to identify and prioritize automation opportunities
  • Contribute to and leverage automation frameworks (Python/Playwright/pytest) where applicable
  • Act as a quality leader within your scrum team and across teams when features span multiple systems
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to process improvements and best practices
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure features are testable, scalable, and aligned with customer needs
  • Participate actively in Agile ceremonies with a focus on quality advocacy
  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for specific product areas
  • Perform UI, API, and SQL testing in complex, multi-tenant SaaS environments
  • Use tools like Postman and CLI environments (bash/zsh) for testing and troubleshooting
  • Work with cloud-based systems (AWS or similar), logs, and distributed architectures
  • Support testing in containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD pipelines
