About The Position

Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opening for a Senior Quality Engineer at our Indiana Harbor facility in East Chicago, IN. As a Senior Quality Engineer at Cleveland-Cliffs, you will be part of a global team making steel that goes into products that are visible all around you. Ideal candidates will meet the below requirements, enjoy hands-on, collaborative environments and are willing to seize opportunities to develop themselves. Ensuring work is performed safely to efficiently produce and deliver quality steel products to our customers is a priority.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Metallurgy, Material Science or related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in manufacturing, preferably materials manufacturing.
  • Working knowledge of metallurgical principles and steel defect origins.
  • Proven communication (verbal and written), analytical, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Must be able to work in a hot, dusty environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • 8+ years experience in materials manufacturing, preferably metals.
  • Demonstrated success in defining and resolving problems.
  • Ability to excel in a dynamic work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and environmental standards.
  • Possess the ability to work effectively within a team environment, utilizing clear, effective communication and coaching skills.
  • Provide leadership by guiding and supporting team members to overcome obstacles.
  • Lead projects and multidisciplinary teams to support continuous improvement and reduction of waste.
  • Provide metallurgical and technical support for product and process improvement through data analysis, problem solving, expertise in an area of responsibility, metallurgical/mechanical concepts, and knowledge of customer operations/markets.
  • Monitor product and process variability while performing to standards with a focus on improving practices and product performance.
  • Meet with customer representatives or processors to provide innovative and timely solutions to quality and reliability issues.
  • Deliver technical solutions to internal and external customers using your understanding of manufacturing process and product capabilities.
  • Work closely with other operational and technical departments to drive results.
  • Communicate with upstream and downstream operations to improve practices and performance.
  • Various other duties, as needed, to support the business.
