About the position

UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Quality Control Engineer (Civil/ Structural) opportunity for our customer in Aiken, SC to support the Savannah River Site. The Senior Quality Control Engineer will provide quality control support to the project team and direct personnel to implement quality requirements and to accurately status the results. Safety is a primary responsibility in each job performed, and the engineer will need to obtain safety training, obey safety rules, and make safety an integral part of each task. The role involves reviewing design output documents, coordinating with internal and external sources to resolve quality issues, and performing or directing quality inspection activities. The engineer will also assess the completeness of construction activities and quality verification documentation prior to preparation of quality control releases for turnover.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality control support to the project team and direct personnel to implement quality requirements.
  • Perform construction quality control inspection and surveillance activities.
  • Review design output documents to establish inspection requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external sources to resolve quality issues.
  • Review technical criteria, personnel qualifications, and work sequence on work packages.
  • Perform or direct the quality inspection activities of subordinate QC engineers.
  • Assist in resolution of code, specifications, and drawing interpretations.
  • Document the results of inspection activities.
  • Review subcontractor's quality program for compliance.
  • Approve subcontractors' invoices and applications for payment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and at least 5 - 7 years of practical experience in construction inspection.
  • An associate's degree and 7 - 9 years of practical experience would be considered equivalent.
  • A high school diploma and 10 - 14 years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent.
  • Certification with continuing technical training is required for performance of inspections.
  • Practical field experience in civil quality control inspections.
  • Ability to develop, review, and implement inspection plans.
  • Competency in reviewing and issuing non-conformance reports.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years are preferred.
  • Experience working under NQA-1 quality assurance programs at DOE facilities.
  • Practical civil/structural field experience within the last 12 months.
