About The Position

Assists the Quality Assurance Leader in planning and implementing departmental goals. Serves as an important resource for training and developing new and experienced QA Technicians on Centro’s Quality System and quality tools. Provides similar training to Production Team Members as appropriate. Acts on behalf of the QA Leader when authorized and fills in as a QA Technician as needed. Plays a key role in the corrective and preventive action system by initiating Quality Action Reports (QAR’s), assisting QAR Champions, and by tracking and documenting progress. Manages a variety of permanent and temporary projects as required. Reviews products, processes and systems and makes recommendations for improvement. Ensures that departmental records are accurate, complete and properly stored. Helps the Department to support Production, Engineering and the Customer. Relevance and Importance Centro’s customers, Centro and the QA Leader rely heavily on the Senior QA Technician to ensure that the Quality Department is functioning correctly and smoothly. The Department’s functions help to assure customers that their needs and stated requirements are being met. Additionally, the Senior QA Technician is looked upon as a key mentor for QA and Production Associates, and as an expert on systems and manufacturing processes. A strong Senior QA Technician provides vital support to the Department, enabling them to assist Centro in achieving our stretch goals in our strategic plan and our quality objectives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required. Ability and desire to learn and apply quality techniques is required.
  • A thorough knowledge of Centro’s products and manufacturing operations, as well as Centro’s Quality System is required. Knowledge of algebra, geometry and statistics is highly preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills, attention to detail and an ability to complete work in a timely fashion is required.
  • Ability to use computer and applicable software, including quality assurance and SPC programs is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate well with Associates and customers both verbally and in writing are required.
  • Ability to understand and interpret technical drawings (blueprints) and a basic understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is required.
  • Must be able to see, read, write, speak and hear sufficiently for effective interpersonal communications. Must be able to receive and understand detailed instructions and information, judge depth, distinguish colors and variances, and apply logical and mathematical concepts to work assignments.
  • Ability to use quality assurance tools and equipment, including calculator, hand and band saws, height gauge, drop tester, calipers, scale, ultra sound thickness gauge, and common office equipment is required.
  • Physical activities, including standing and walking for long periods, periodically lifting and carrying items up to 50 pounds, manual dexterity with hands and fingers, general body dexterity to reach and bend are required.
  • Five years of manufacturing experience, including two years of Quality Assurance experience, is preferred.
  • This position has specific competencies which must be achieved in order to become and remain qualified.
  • Able to travel to suppliers and customers as required

Nice To Haves

  • Candidates with relevant degrees from accredited universities and certifications from professional associations such as the American Society for Quality (ASQ) or the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers (ASME) are preferred.
  • Strong technical writing skills are preferred.
  • work towards a related college degree or an ASQ certification for Quality Technician, Quality Inspector or Quality Engineer is desired.

Responsibilities

  • Accepts the responsibilities and duties of the Quality Assurance Leader as authorized.
  • Performs the responsibilities and job duties of the Quality Technician when needed.
  • Ensures that Quality Department records are accurate, complete and maintained properly.
  • Maintains electronic records and databases as required.
  • Calculates statistics, formulates and distributes reports as required.
  • Trains new QA Technicians (and Production Team Associates as needed) on Centro’s Quality System and quality tools. Develops experienced QA Technicians.
  • Performs duties and fulfills responsibilities in accordance with those defined in Centro's Quality System.
  • Initiates Quality Action Reports (QAR's) and performs other duties related to the reporting of customer complaints as assigned
  • Works in a self-directed manner with minimal supervision on various permanent and temporary projects as required.
  • May be required to undertake role as calibration coordinator per business requirements.
  • May be required to undertake role as warranty administrator per business requirements.
  • Completes QMS, ISO9001, Layered Process, and additional audits a requested by leadership.
