As a QA Engineer at Steno, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing QA processes and technologies, as well as developing automated testing. You will be responsible for planning, developing, and managing QA test plans for multiple product lines, leading QA planning sessions for major features, and performing QA browser testing with Playwright. Your strong sense of ownership and proactive approach will help identify defects and improve product quality, ultimately enhancing customer satisfaction. You will collaborate closely with development leads and product managers to establish quality standards and testing strategies, and participate in architectural discussions to ensure testability and quality are integrated into system design.

  • Planning, developing and managing the QA test plans for multiple product lines
  • Leading QA planning sessions for major features and cross-functional initiatives
  • Performing QA browser testing with Playwright and translating those tests into automated scripts for future regression coverage
  • Identifying quality assurance process bottlenecks and suggesting (and implementing) actions for improvement
  • Investigating product quality to make improvements for better customer satisfaction
  • Using various tools to discover and root cause issues, including db queries with SQL, browser dev tools, and web request tools (e.g. Postman)
  • Mentoring QA engineers and conducting code reviews of test scripts
  • Collaborating with development leads and product managers on quality standards and testing strategy
  • Participating in architectural discussions to ensure testability and quality are built into the system design
  • Triaging bug reports and working to reproduce those bugs
  • 5+ years of QA experience with demonstrated leadership and strategic planning experience
  • Experience leading testing efforts for complex, multi-component systems
  • Familiarity with the downsides of both under-engineering and over-engineering, and an appreciation for working pragmatically
  • Ability to seek clarity and simplicity in problem domains
  • Track record of successfully mentoring team members and driving process improvements
  • Effective communication of technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Understanding that real project work happens when the last 20% is being completed, focusing on edge cases, errors, and interesting scenarios
  • Experience with AI tooling, git, and high-level programming languages such as JavaScript or Python
  • Familiarity with TypeScript, Node.js, Selenium/Playwright, and Jest
  • Experience with a variety of different testing techniques and knowing when to apply them
  • Salary range: $140k-$160k
