About The Position

Checkr is building a data platform to power safe and fair decisions, utilizing innovative technology to help customers assess risk and ensure safety and compliance for trusted workplaces and communities. Checkr serves over 100,000 customers, including major brands like Amazon and Netflix, and is recognized on Forbes Cloud 100 2025 List and as a Y Combinator 2024 Breakthrough Company. Truework, recently acquired by Checkr, operates independently to provide crucial employment and income information for various needs such as mortgage loans and background checks, disrupting a $5B+ industry. As a Senior Software Engineer on the Truework team, you will develop and maintain a platform used by 8 of the top 10 mortgage lenders in the US. Engineers at Checkr take ownership of all aspects of product development, from leading projects and defining features with product managers and customers to collaborating with sales and marketing teams for product launches and scaling. This role offers significant autonomy and is primarily backend-oriented, though candidates from various engineering backgrounds (full stack, backend, QA, SRE) are welcome if they meet the requirements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Bachelor degree (or equivalent education/training)
  • Proficiency in Python and Javascript (or similar languages/frameworks)
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • A strong sense of ownership from feature design through production release
  • A desire to collaborate with external stakeholders
  • An eagerness to learn, collaborate, improve, innovate, and have fun
  • An A-player mindset with a strong bias for action: you raise the bar, move with urgency, stay resilient through ambiguity, and take ownership to deliver meaningful outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Be an independent individual contributor who can solve problems and deliver high-quality solutions with minimal/high-level oversight and a high level of ownership
  • Bring a customer-centric, product-oriented mindset to the table - collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to resolve product ambiguities and ship impactful features
  • Partner with engineering, product, design, and other stakeholders in designing and architecting new features
  • Experimentation mindset - autonomy and empowerment to validate a customer need, get team buy-in, and ship a rapid MVP
  • Quality mindset - you insist on quality as a critical pillar of your software deliverables
  • Analytical mindset - instrument and deploy new product experiments with a data-driven approach
  • Deliver performant, reliable, scalable, and secure code capable of supporting Truework’s significant scale
  • Monitor, investigate, triage, and resolve production issues as they arise for services owned by the team
