About The Position

Bloomsbury Publishing is looking for a Senior Publicist in our Adult Trade division. The incumbent will devise and implement publicity plans for both fiction and nonfiction titles; coordinate publicity events; as well as maintain relationships with authors, media and event venues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field and 3 to 5+ years of experience in publicity (part of that time preferably at the Publicist level), with an emphasis working on titles in these categories: fiction, literature, current events, history, culinary, politics and science.
  • Experience working with literary and commercial fiction strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional and effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Strong relationships with top-line traditional print and broadcast media, as well as digital media and familiarity with local media in major tour markets across the country.
  • Proven ability to generate creative angles and pitches.
  • Fastidious attention to detail, highly organized, and able to keep to and/or work ahead of deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent skills in diplomacy, a strong sense of initiative and high level of professionalism.
  • Proven ability to deliver timely, accurate work product and demonstrate good follow-up and follow through.
  • Ability to think strategically and adapt to changing circumstances in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Possess a strong working knowledge of what is fresh in the media landscape and apply this knowledge to assigned projects and campaigns.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Publicity Assistant, Cision, Biblio, UPS CampusShip, NetGalley, and Social Media technology.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently publicizing books and authors of both fiction (literary and commercial) and nonfiction (ranging from current events to history to culinary) titles.
  • Devise and implement trade PR campaigns across all media platforms, including digital media.
  • Pitch and arrange interviews with national, regional, and local broadcast, print, online media and bloggers, developing proper angles and pitches.
  • Brief and prepare authors for media interviews and attend as needed.
  • Schedule author tours with traditional bookstore appearances, reading series, and offsite partnered event venues.
  • Actively cultivate and maintain media contacts, including national, regional, local, and online.
  • Create press releases, pitch letters and other promotional book campaign materials that will successfully achieve media objectives in local, regional, and national outlets.
  • Work closely with colleagues in marketing (includes digital), editorial, and sales departments to create a clear and thorough publicity effort for all titles.
  • Effectively communicate publicity protocols and campaign processes to authors while managing expectations.
  • Manage and maintain publicity budget for assigned titles.
