About The Position

The Senior Public Health Educator for the Project Saving Smiles Education Coordinator role is responsible for planning, organizing, and developing health education programs that address community needs, particularly in the context of COVID-19 response. This position involves community engagement, outreach, and the evaluation of health education techniques and materials. The educator will work closely with community and private sector groups to promote health education initiatives and assist in staff development within the Public Health Educator team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Behavioral Science, or a closely related field such as Public Health.
  • Two years of experience in Public Health, Education, or a closely related field.
  • A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for the experience requirement.
  • Directly related professional experience may substitute for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years' experience leading community-based oral health outreach programs.
  • Clinic operations experience as a Registered Dental Assistant.
  • General knowledge of the procurement and logistics processes of the Health Department.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proficient in MS Word.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, and develops health education programs that meet community needs.
  • Collects data and performs research to assist in developing, pretesting, and evaluating health-related education techniques and/or materials.
  • Schedules and presents health education programs/seminars for community and private sector groups.
  • Establishes and maintains a close working relationship with the community and private sectors through advisory and committee participation.
  • Prepares or assists with the preparation of health education pamphlets, visual aids, or special projects.
  • Interprets health education programs and services of the department to the community and private sector.
  • Assists with Public Health Educator staff development.
