About the position

Stanley Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Senior Protection and Controls Engineer to lead design efforts in high voltage transmission system protection schemes and relay programming for utility or generation clients. The role involves technical responsibilities such as designing high voltage diagrams, computer modeling of electrical systems, and preparing specifications and reports while ensuring compliance with codes and standards. The engineer will work with minimal supervision, manage design budgets and schedules, and coordinate technical efforts across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Design high voltage one line, communication network diagrams, and three line diagrams.
  • Perform computer modeling and analysis of electrical systems.
  • Prepare specifications for equipment and systems.
  • Conduct report preparation and apply relevant codes and standards.
  • Produce design drawings and perform design computations.
  • Lead design efforts with minimal supervision and manage design budgets and schedules.
  • Determine client requirements and coordinate technical efforts within discipline areas.
  • Direct and review the work of junior engineers, designers, and technicians on major projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an accredited college or university.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with electric utility substations up to 345kV.
  • Proficiency in protective relay coordination and settings calculations for HV and EHV transmission systems.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Familiarity with electrical system analysis software such as ASPEN, ETAP, SKM, PSS/E, and PSLF.
  • Knowledge of FERC and NERC requirements related to electric utility substation reliability.
  • Experience with SCADA, IP Networking, Remote Terminal Units (RTU), and communication networks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Schweitzer and General Electric relay and communication equipment.
  • Familiarity with common transmission line protection schemes such as step-distance, POTT, DCB, and DUTT.
  • Field testing and commissioning of substation equipment.
  • Factory acceptance witness testing of power transformers, switchgear, or control panels.
