The Senior Protection & Control (P&C) and System Engineer works on T&D substations for AC, HVDC and FACTS projects with designers, peer engineers & leaders. They are responsible for the review of P&C designs developed by the project teams and confirm compliance with project specifications and applicable Standards. The Engineer should actively work on mentoring the secondary design team and acts as its main technical authority while also representing GE with external standards committees (e.g. IEEE). The Senior Protection & Control Engineer is an established leader in their respective engineering team. The Engineer drives business strategy through detailed technical and economic understanding of the marketplace and takes the initiative to provide customers with the best solutions that positively impact business. Accountable for the proper performance of design in matter of engineering cost time, and quality. While the role is primarily in the review of designs prepared by other team member, the Senior Protection & Control Engineer may be identified as project engineering manager for small to medium size project, which are highly secondary engineering focused. The Senior Protection & Control Engineer shall continuously update themselves with new technology, have a mindset of continuous learning, consistent with grid transition needs, and provide technical direction to the team. Impacts approaches, projects and programs in the functional area or affected business organization and ways of working. Impacts quality, efficiency and effectiveness of own team. Has significant input into priorities. Guided by professional practices and policies that are shaped by the role. The role has moderate autonomy, requiring high levels of operational judgment.

  • Ensure high quality design of protection schemes for all kinds of T&D substations, Data Centers, Industrial, BESS applications including one-lines, three-lines, AC / DC schematics, and relay settings.
  • Review, propose optimization and seal (P.E. stamp) protection and control designs prepared by himself or other team members.
  • Lead and coordinate all P&C technical aspects of AC power substation projects, ensuring successful and safe operation of power system equipment.
  • Review, propose optimization and seal (P.E. stamp) single line diagrams and detailed design for auxiliary systems.
  • Review power system load flow studies, fault studies, relay setting coordination, and transient studies performed by other agencies.
  • Develop or Review outage, cut-over, and testing procedures.
  • Be familiar with IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture and its implementation for substations.
  • Interface with internal and external team members such as Protection and Control Engineers, Lead engineers, Project Engineers, Electrical Designers, Civil Engineers, Physical Designers, Draftsmen, Project managers, Sourcing, and support organization.
  • Interface with customer technical representatives.
  • Review and analyze post fault records to confirm correct operation of the system design.
  • Lead or support factory acceptance testing and site testing & commissioning.
