About The Position

Boeing Technology Innovation is currently seeking a Senior Propulsion Systems Modeling Engineer to join our Energy & Propulsion team based in Everett, WA. The role involves developing and integrating advanced future propulsion systems to enable new products and meet anticipated requirements. The engineer will partner across Boeing to develop technology solutions to existing propulsion/nacelle performance gaps or anticipated customer and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include conducting engine cycle and performance analyses, applying various testing, analysis, modeling and simulation tools, and planning and conducting propulsion tests. The engineer will lead the definition of requirements for propulsion systems and auxiliary power systems, coordinate functional and physical interfaces, and support fielded systems by developing responses to customer queries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology, computer science, engineering data science, mathematics, physics or chemistry.
  • 5+ years of experience in propulsion engineering or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • 9+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical engineering.
  • Experience using a variety of tools and methods for propulsion performance modeling, simulation and analysis.
  • Experience working with or simulating advanced turbofan engine decks.
  • Detailed understanding of propulsion cycles, power extraction, thermodynamics and gas dynamics.
  • Knowledge of existing and conceptual propulsion architectures.
  • Experience with NPSS and MATLAB.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate advanced future propulsion systems to enable new products and meet anticipated requirements.
  • Partner across Boeing to develop technology solutions to existing propulsion/nacelle performance gaps or anticipated customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct engine cycle and performance analyses to assess benefits and risks of new technologies on advanced or existing propulsion systems.
  • Apply various testing, analysis, modeling and simulation tools to measure or predict system performance.
  • Plan and conduct propulsion tests including bench, wind tunnel, rig, or full-scale ground/flight tests.
  • Lead definition of requirements for propulsion systems, auxiliary power systems and vehicle fuel and tank systems.
  • Lead definition, coordination and control of the functional and physical interfaces between the propulsion system and the vehicle.
  • Lead development of specifications and architectural and configuration concepts for associated vehicle systems to meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead configuration and design of propulsion sub-systems and components to meet all vehicle design and performance criteria.
  • Lead the use of various testing, analysis, modeling and simulation tools to estimate or calculate system performance.
  • Lead the definition and performance of certification tests for propulsion sub-systems and components.
  • Lead support of fielded systems by developing responses to customer queries and providing technical recommendations.
  • Lead development of concepts for future propulsion systems to meet anticipated requirements.
