About The Position

Varda is looking for a Sr Propulsion Development Engineer to be a technical lead for Varda Bus Propulsion Systems. This person will be responsible for ensuring technical success for the propulsion system across vehicles in various states of build, acceptance testing, integration, and flight operation. The Bus Systems Lead will drive towards solutions which meet program goals of cadence and reliability while meeting vehicle top line requirements. Additionally, this individual would be responsible for architecture definition for the next generation of Varda spacecraft. We are looking to optimize our propulsion system for our current and future generation vehicles. Ready to grow with us?

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in an applicable technical field
  • 8+ years in Propulsion Systems development
  • In-space propulsion experience preferred but not required
  • Strong technical breadth and depth in the following areas
  • Propulsion system architecting and design
  • Common propulsion components such as thrusters, tanks, solenoid valves, regulators, etc
  • Fluid system analysis
  • Test and evaluation approaches for flight hardware
  • Propulsion system flight operations
  • Familiarity with typical propulsion materials and manufacturing techniques
  • Willingness and ability to take ownership of problems and drive projects to completion
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a dynamic highly technical environment

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with fluid systems simulation packages such as GFSSP, SINDA/FLUINT, ROCETS, or similar
  • Familiarity with test requirement specifications such as SMC-S-016, SMC-S-025, or similar

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Varda Bus Propulsion System technical baseline
  • Identify and execute on propulsion system block upgrades
  • Own propulsion systems operations for ongoing missions
  • Size, architect, design, and test Varda Bus propulsion hardware and components
  • Develop project plans, including determining development roadmaps and milestones and required alignment of other engineering teams
  • Define requirements and top level propulsion architecture for future Varda vehicles
